My Life Among the Underdogs: A Memoir by Tia Torres (Pit Bulls & Parolees)

We are HUGE fans of Tia Torres and her pack from Animal Planet’s hit show Pit Bulls & Parolees, and are super excited to get our paws on her new memoir My Life Among the Underdogs. It’s a behind the scenes look at her life, her dogs, and her program that pairs parolees with rescue dogs.

Tia has devoted her life to shattering the stereotype that pit bulls are dangerous, vicious predators. As the top dog at the Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, the largest pit bull rescue in the United States, she and her team have rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed hundreds of animals that might otherwise have been destroyed. As she puts it, “Most of the stories in this book are about animals (and a few humans) that needed someone to believe in them and a purpose in order to show their true nobility.”

Meghan Markle’s Rescue Beagle Has a New Book!

Everyone loves an underdog story. Sure, Meghan Markle was a successful woman and celebrity in her own right before marrying Prince Harry, but she always seemed ‘just like us’ to me. Because she’s so relatable, her story is like something out of a fairy tale. And now Meghan Markle’s dog Guy has published his own fairy tale!

His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle’s Rescue Dog has just been released in hardcover and we were super excited to get our paws on an early copy so that we could tell you all about it.

Like all good fairy tales, Guy’s begins in the backwoods of Kentucky. He was lost and living alone until he met his forever owner at an adoption event; her name was Meghan Markle. They did everything together: went on walks, played fetch, and binge-watched Suits. Guy absolutely adored her, but he wasn’t the only one. A human loved Meghan, too; his name was Harry. Tall and debonair with hair the color of a traffic cone, Harry was also a prince.

Guy soon finds himself in London, ecstatic about this new adventure. He works hard to fit in to the royal dog way of life, but he struggles. He has no fancy papers, no high-class education, and no command over the British puparazzi. As Meghan and Harry’s wedding day approaches, Guy feels as alone and desperate. But when the Queen gets into a bind when a royal tradition is nearly forgotten, Guy’s backwoods Kentucky skills might be able to save the day. With the Queen’s encouragement, Guy learns the true meaning of family—even if it’s a royal one.

This is a cute, funny and heartwarming book for dog lovers of all ages, and makes the perfect holiday gift. Daisy is a rescue dog too, so Guy the Beagle’s story is especially touching.

If you love cute animals and spend any time on the internet, then you’ve probably seen Goats of Anarchy. If not, stop what you are doing and watch this adorable video to see the story of one of the rescue goats in her duck costume (she wears it like a dog wears a ThunderShirt, to calm her anxiety):

Too cute, right?!? Anyway, there’s a new Goats of Anarchy book being released in a few days and it’s available to order NOW. It should ship out on March 15th, but may sell out quickly, as popular internet sensations are known to do. As with all Amazon book orders, it comes with the pre-release guarantee. Order now and if the price decreases before it is released, you only pay the lower price.

Order: Goats of Anarchy: One Woman’s Quest to Save the World One Goat At A Time. Hardcover; March 15, 2017.

From the publisher: Get ready to party—the goats are back in town! Based on the popular Instagram account, Goats of Anarchy takes you on a tour of Leanne’s goat rescue farm, a place where special-needs goats can heal, grow, and butt heads to their hearts’ content.

Join Pocket, Ella, Chibs, Lyla, Prospect and Polly–the goat who took the Internet by storm with her adorable duck costume–as they rumble, snuggle, pig out, dress up, and even teach you a few goat yoga moves to loosen your haunches. Whether they’re learning to walk or just romping around the farm, these horned and hooved heartbreakers will have you grinning ear to ear as they chew the scenery—literally!

About the author: Also known as “Goat Mama,” Leanne Lauricella is the founder of Goats of Anarchy, a non-profit organization that aims to rescue and rehabilitate baby goats with special needs. As a former city girl with a passion and compassion for animals, Leanne has developed a wildly popular and Webby award-winning Instagram account and continues to provide goats a happy and loving forever home at her sanctuary. When she left New York City for the wilds of New Jersey in 2011, Leanne Lauricella knew nothing about animal sanctuaries. She started her Instagram account, @goatsofanarchy, shortly after getting her first two goats, Jax and Opie. Today, Leanne’s Instagram has over 400,000 followers, and is the winner of the 2016 People’s Voice Webby Award for Animal-Based Social Media Account. [Read more…]
