Pet First Aid

April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month so I’ve put together some Tips, Advice and Deals on items every pet parent should have on hand in case of emergency.

First, save money by taking an inventory of what you already have at home and gather items together for quick and easy access when needed.  Here is a very helpful List of 10 Essential Pet First Aid Kit Items from WomansDay.com.

If you’d like to pick up an affordable ready-made Pet First Aid Kit, I spotted several good ones at Amazon including this AKC 20-Piece Pet First Aid Kit for $14.95 and Free Shipping eligible. You can also browse Amazon for more Pet First Aid Kits here.

Next, learn the basics of Pet First Aid. Print and familiarize yourself with this How to Perform Pet CPR Infographic. You can also get more information and find out about Pet First Aid Classes at Red Cross.

It’s a good idea to keep some reference materials on hand, and Amazon had deals on Pet First Aid Books and Downloads. Two that look like great deals to me are:

Pet First Aid Companion Book for Dogs and Cats

The First Aid Companion for Dogs & Cats (Prevention Pets) This book is only $14.93 (reg. $21.95) at Amazon and eligible for FREE Shipping.  It covers Basic first-aid techniques, such as cleaning a wound, making a splint, and performing CPR– step-by-step. Also tells you which over-the-counter human medications can help, or harm your dog or cat and what to keep in your pet’s medicine chest.

Quickly pinpoint what’s wrong with your pet, using the First-Aid Symptom Finder and tells you when to call the vet.

First Aid for Pet for Dummies Kindle Edition

First Aid For Pets For Dummies®, Portable Edition Download for Kindle or just about ANY smartphone, tablet, PC or other device for only $5.69 ($7.99 Digital List Price).

Very affordable and handy because it’s digital and you can always have it with you if you need it! There is also a $0.99 Dummies Mini Edition, too.

Also be sure to request your FREE Pet Safety Pack from ASPCA containing a sticker for alerting emergency and fire personnel that you have pets, and a fridge magnet with the phone number of the ASPCA 24 Hour Emergency Pet Poison Control Center.

You can Download a FREE Pet Health Phone App from Purina here for iPhone or Android, and keep your pet’s medical info and records at your fingertips. It also has a handy Vet Finder for emergencies when you are traveling or on the go!

I’ll be posting more pet first aid and health deals and freebies throughout the month, so stay tuned! Found a deal on pet first aid kits or other items? Leave a comment to let us know!
