Nutrisystem Update Week 19: Blame It On The Margaritas!

Did you celebrate National Margarita Day yesterday? We sure did! That’s my margarita from last night there in the photo. I’d like to tell you that I only had one, and that I did not eat those chips, but I really love a great margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim, so you can already guess that I didn’t stop at just one…and yes, I ate the chips. And a big plate of amazing Mexican food! Woof Woof Papa was there too…and he said it’s ok to tell you that he over-indulged as well. You get the picture, I’ll spare you all the gory details.

Sometimes you’ve just gotta cut loose…footloose. I’ve got that song stuck in my head now, just writing it. Speaking of songs, we love our margaritas so much down here in Florida that there’s even a Blame It On The Margaritas song that’s popular with the locals. Check it out. You can listen to it while you read our post:

Did we both gain weight? Yes, but luckily just a little bit, and we’re blaming it on the margaritas. We figure it was worth it to have some fun and enjoy a rare meal out at our favorite Mexican restaurant. We never eat that way on a regular basis anymore and I can’t believe that we ever used to! Plus, we’re right back on track today with our Nutrisystem program, thank goodness. That’s a main difference between what’s working for us now versus everything we tried in the past. We’ve got a safety net so one evening of going off the rails doesn’t result in a ginormous train wreck.

Do we both wish we had used greater restraint and not eaten as much (or drank so many empty calories)? Yes, but this whole weight loss experience is a learning process for us. If we already knew how to do it right, we wouldn’t have put on so many lbs in the first place! Whether you think of it as will power or a skill, learning to go out in the world and enjoy ourselves in moderation takes practice. It’s all part of the journey and we’re still working on getting that part right.

What will we do differently next time? Well first of all, we’ll try to avoid celebrating made up holidays that we found on Facebook like National Margarita Day!  And on a related note, limiting the alcohol is a must. Drinking really is a double whammy diet-killer since it not only adds lots of empty calories, but it also lowers inhibition and impairs judgement which contributes to making poor decisions about what and how much to eat. So, we’re just going to blame it on the margaritas and do better next time!

We’d love to hear from you about your own weight loss experiences, challenges and goals, so leave a comment and let us know you stopped by!

  1. I’m loving Nutrisystem. I’m in week 7 and am down 7 pounds.

I had been doing calorie counting on my own for a few years but I stayed within the same 10 pounds for 2 years. I just could not lose. Nutrisystem has given me more structure (*cough* instead of saving 130 calories for Doritos, I’m choosing better “SmartCarbs”) and has the scale moving again.

    • Congrats on the weight loss Lexi! Nutrisystem is helping us SO much! I wish I could lose weight as fast as the hubs but I don’t stress about it because I know it’s working as long as I just stick to it…nothing we ever tried on our own ever worked!

  2. You’re doing great!! A margarita is worth the calories!! Happy Margarita Day! lol

  3. You have done such a great job a little indulgence must have been nice!

  4. That drink looks great! You’ll get back on track next week I’m sure! 🙂

  5. Savannah miller says

You are still going great!  I love reading these posts and see your progress 🙂

  6. I missed out on margarita day. Hopefully I can make up for it tomorrow.

  7. You’re doing awesome – and at least you had fun! 😉

  8. Oh what I would not do for a margarita right now!

  9. Life is all about celebrating the little moments every now and then, otherwise it would be dreary so no worries. You’ll get right back on track and hopefully enjoy the moments you had on National Margarita Day. You’ve been doing so well, I know you’ll keep it up!

  10. Good luck on your diet, however you made me really miss a tasty margarita and Mexican food! It’s something that here in Switzerland…well, its just not the same or even close!
