About the Author:

An avid animal lover and pet owner her whole life, Karen J. Roberts became active in animal rescue in December of 2011 when she adopted her little dog Louie from the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, Ma. After losing both her parents to cancer in the previous year, she felt an overwhelming need to do something positive. Adding Louie to her family sent her on a mission to find a way to help the countless animals who end up in shelters across the United States through no fault of their own. She wrote The Little Blue Dog as a way to tell Louie’s story and raise awareness and funding for animal rights and rescue organizations. Learn more at her book website: http://thelittlebluedog.com/

Her Mission:

Creating books for kids with lovable characters in engaging stories with a message of kindness, humane choices and the importance of compassion for animals to provide our younger generations with the tools to effect social change.

Children need to know that animals have feelings too and they are here to help us.  I do think its important that kids learn to love and respect animals.

Louie & Karen’s book is beloved in our family. The gentle message of love and compassion has taught my daughters to be responsible pet owners and that adopting a rescue dog is so important to ensure so many loving dogs have forever homes. Louie is literally a celebrity in our house. I think every child in America…no, the world, should read these books as they teach a humane message of love and compassion. When my daughters are tired, they always ask me to read them Louie’s book, as it soothes them. Thank you Karen for writing such beautiful books!

  11. I have three daughters who love dogs! They will love these books.

Actually I think we should teach everyone about kindness to animals.  There seem to be adults out there who don’t understand the concept at all.  It’s an important issue.  Pet adoption is an issue we need a national conversation about, along with a national registry for people who surrender and abuse pets.  Way too many animals end up in overcrowded shelters and are murdered without ever being seen or having a chance at adoption. Some animals end up spending over half, and sometimes most of their lives in a kennel or shelter.  Teaching kids and the public about kindness to animals and animal adoption may help us end this horrible situation.

    • Thank you for your very thoughtful and compassionate post Jennifer P – Vicki Vix!  I hope you were able to Like our page at http://www.facebook.com/thelittlebluedog  We could use your support and point of view to help our educational mission…I agree completely – there are adults out there who actually KNOW about the pet problem and yet still choose to buy a dog.  thanks again!

  13. So excited to read these books and give them to every child I know! 🙂
