Donate to WWF for Mother's Day

Moms around the world take remarkable steps to protect, nurture and raise their young. Orangutan mothers stay with their young for six to seven years, teaching them where to find food and how to build a sleeping nest. A group of female African elephants will help a calf to its feet after birth and show the baby how to nurse.

Here are two easy ways to thank the mothers in your life while supporting wildlife conservation:

  1. Give a Mother’s Day Gift for Wildlife: Show Mom that you care! Make a donation of any amount to support World Wildlife Fund’s global conservation efforts, and send an e-card to Mom to announce your gift. She will love knowing that your donation helps protect species and wild places around the world.
  2. Send Free WWF Mother’s Day E-cards: Tell your mother, grandmother, sister, or friend that you care about her and nature by sending Mother’s Day e-cards. They are a fun and eco-friendly way to express your love and appreciation for all that she does!

military spouse appreciation day

Do you know a neighbor, friend or family member who is a military spouse? Well, today is a GREAT time to say THANKS for all they do, because in their own way, military spouses serve our country too! Woof Woof Papa served in the US Army, so I know first hand how challenging it can be to hold down the fort while your spouse is away on deployment.

Today, May 9th, is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, so head on over to the National Military Family Association website where you can send FREE eCards to every military spouse and family you know. Just one small way we can all support the spouses and families who support our service members!

Celebrate Be Kind To Animals Week #BKTA99

This week is the 99th edition of ‪‎Be Kind to Animals‬ Week and you can join the celebration and help by taking the pledge to stand up for all animals today! After you take the pledge, you can also share one of several cute images to help spread the word.  Visit www.americanhumane.org/bekind to take the pledge and help spread the word about the importance of being kind to animals this week and EVERY week!

More Ways to Celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week:

Adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue

Every year, an estimated 3.7 million animals must be euthanized at our nation’s shelters because they could not be adopted into loving homes. Help animals find a second chance at happiness by adopting your next pet from your local shelter or rescue group. American Humane Association has pet adoption tips to find the animal companion that’s right for you and develop a bond that will last a lifetime.

Take care of your pet

Pets are like children who never grow up. They need you to help keep them healthy and safe throughout their lives. Keep your animal’s vaccinations up-to-date. Make sure he’s wearing proper identification. Take your pet to the veterinarian regularly. Know what it takes to be a responsible pet owner.

Appreciate wildlife

All animals deserve to be treated humanely — family pets and animals in the wild. Create an inviting space in your yard and garden for butterflies, hummingbirds and other creatures. If wildlife comes too close to home, look for ways to coexist with animals or to protect your property humanely.

Report animal abuse

Animal cruelty and abuse is not only tragic for animals, but also an indicator that other forms of abuse such as domestic violence could be happening. If you see something that looks suspicious — a dog chained in your neighbor’s yard that looks underfed, a child putting a cat in a box and kicking it around the yard — don’t hesitate. Let someone know.

Vote To Decide Which Local Causes Receive a $25K Neighborhood Assist Grant

I’m super excited to be participating in this Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for helping spread the word about how you can get involved in this fantastic neighborhood initiative.  Read on to learn how to vote for causes YOU care about, so they can receive a $25,000 grant to support the work they do in local communities!

vote for your favorite causes

Communities across the United States and Canada answered the call from State Farm to help create a positive impact in their community and submitted 4,000 causes as part of this year’s State Farm Neighborhood Assist. Now the top 200 causes have been selected and they need you to help vote them into the top 40.

Now through May 16, everyone can vote daily for their favorite cause, or causes, and help bring $25,000 to each of the top 40 vote-getters. It’s super easy: just use the free State Farm Neighborhood Assist Facebook app to cast your votes!

You can cast 10 votes per day — use them all on one great cause that’s nearest and dearest to your heart, or divide up your 10 votes among any of the top 40 finalists throughout the United States and Canada. Browse them using the map, or search by interest or type of cause you care about.

Here’s a video about one of the previous winners, Hearing Our Heroes, which is a youth group helping local military veterans in their community. This cause is close to MY heart because my hubby (Woof Woof Papa) is a US Army Veteran. Check it out:

Pretty inspiring, right?!? Well, it’s time to help choose this year’s winners. Head on over to Facebook and vote daily to help decide which 40 groups will each get a $25K grant to support their programs. There are SO many worthwhile causes! I think I’m going to split my votes between the Comanche Animal Shelter Project in Texas and a Childhood Obesity program right here in South Florida.
