Today is National Puppy Day, and Daisy is almost 8 but we still think of her as our puppy dog! Most pet parents we know don’t need an excuse to spoil their fur kids, regardless of whether they are a puppy, adult or senior dog. There is one very special occasion that does deserves some extra celebrating and that’s your dog’s birthday or adoption day.

Daisy is a rescue dog so we celebrate her adoption day, which many dog moms and dads call “Gotcha Day”.

Whichever you choose to celebrate and/or call your dog’s special day, we wanted to clue you in to some very special gift ideas for your dog.

Head on over HERE to check out all the dog toys, treats and gift ideas.

It’s no wonder that BarkBox is the most popular subscription box service for dogs. Each month’s delivery comes packed with fun goodies dogs love. The September BarkBox theme was Bark University, just in time for back to school! In addition to 2 amazing dog toys and 3 tasty dog treats, the BarkBox also included a Welcome Letter from the Dean and a few more surprises.

We hope you’ll stay for our monthly BarkBox review, but if you’re just here for the BarkBox coupon code, scroll straight down to the end and find out how to snag a FREE BarkBox with any order of 1 month or longer!

Daisy’s been getting her BarkBox deliveries for several years now, and it’s still something we always look forward to! Each month we show you what toys and treats are inside that month’s BarkBox, and how the total value of the individual items compares to the price of a monthly subscription.

Be aware that each BarkBox subscription is customized for your dog’s size and allergies, so individual items will vary. Here’s what we got in her September University-Themed BarkBox:

September BarkBox Dog Toys

Pup of Noodles Dog Toy ($12 retail value) Every college student on a budget practically lives on ramen noodles, but this dog toy has a special surprise built in. Hidden inside is a spiky ball core, which is like a bonus toy when your pup rips through the noodles’ exterior. Squeaky fun and low sodium, too!
Shar-Pei Highlicker ($10 retail value) Stuffed with a squeaky water bottle core and crazy crinkle, this noisy highlighter will make playtime so memorable, your dog will be more than prepared for the pup quiz!

September BarkBox Dog Treats

Lambda Treata Phi Dog Treats ($8 retail value) These all-natural lamb dog treats that are ideal for snacking, a reward, or just grabbing a handful because you’re late to class. The natural smoky flavor make them the perfect study snack!

Brew Biscuit Dog Treats ($8 retail value) Your furry scholar won’t need a fake ID to indulge in these brewery treats. Ingredients: Cheddar cheese, spent grains (barley & rolled oats), coconut oil, natural bacon flavor. College kids love junk food, but as parents we sure love seeing a short list of real food ingredients!

Spirit Stick Pork Chew ($3 retail value) Made in the USA, dried bits of pig have never tasted this good (to a dog) before! This strip of pork hide is slow dried, which produces a super-tough, super-tasty snack for your pup.

As I mentioned, there were a few extra surprises in this month’s BarkBox: A Welcome Letter from the Dean of Admissions at #BARKUniversity along with a Course “Dogalog” registration for, and instructions on how to help your “Valadogtorian” score a perfect 4.0 and win some free dog toys and treats!

BarkBox Cost and Value

By our calculation, this month’s BarkBox had $41 worth of dog toys and treats if you were to purchase them all separately. That’s a great value when you consider that subscription prices start at $21/month with free US shipping. In addition to saving money, we also love the WOW-factor and excitement of getting a new delivery of surprises each month. It’s a chance to discover new dog treats and toys that we might not have known about otherwise.

August BarkBox Review + Coupon (Total Eclipse Edition)

Not only is BarkBox the most popular subscription box service for dogs, it’s also out of this world…especially this month! The August BarkBox theme was Invasion of the Space Squirrels and that was perfect to go with this week’s spectacular solar eclipse. In addition to 2 amazing dog toys and 3 tasty dog treats, the BarkBox also included some Canine-O-Vision space glasses. Special glasses so your dog could watch the total eclipse of the sun? Not exactly, but I’ll get to later.

We hope you’ll stay for our monthly BarkBox review, but if you’re just here for the BarkBox coupon code, scroll straight down to the end and find out how to snag a FREE BarkBox with any order of 1 month or longer!

Be aware that each BarkBox subscription is customized for your dog’s size and allergies, so individual items will vary. Here’s what we got in her August Space-Themed BarkBox:

August BarkBox Dog Treats

Double Pork Apple Bar ($3 retail value) We get super excited whenever Daisy gets Etta Says! dog treats in her BarkBox. They are always full of crunchy, meaty goodness and this time we got double the yum with 2 crunch bars of pork and apple. One to enjoy now, and one to save for later.

Astro Bacon Dog Treats ($6 retail value) Everyone loves bacon, even aliens! These tasty treats have bacon blended with pork stock and molasses in an oat-and-brown rice batter to create a chewy, smoky snack. Wheat-free and all-natural.

Koha Jerky Bites ($8 retail value) These wild game flavor dog treats are a blend of pork liver and venison. Their grain-free, and only 4 calories per treat. We like the small size of these for pocket treats and training rewards.

August BarkBox Dog Toys

Mighty Mort Space Squirrel Dog Toy ($12 retail value) Born on Planet Squirrelion, this cute guy is full of squeaks and fun. He’s got a long furry tail that’s ideal for shredding and thrashing, and four tentacles that are perfect for a pup who loves to fetch and carry their alien pal while they play.

Pup and Away! Spaceship Dog Toy ($12 retail value) This toy is perfect for fetching and a game of tug, thanks to the rope at the end.  Daisy’s been having a blast flinging it around and chasing it when we launch it into orbit.

I’d mentioned that this month’s BarkBox included a very special pair of glasses. Since everyone we know has been hunting to find a pair of eclipse glasses, that’s what I first thought when I saw them. The info card explained that these special glasses are actually decoder glasses and that the paper in the box is encoded with some special messages.

“Look at the paper with the Canine-O-Vision glasses to decode the epic battle of Star-Pup vs Space Squirrel!”

I love the clever extras and attention to detail that the BarkBox folks come up with each month and this is a great example!

BarkBox Review + Coupon: Small Dog Subscription Box March 2017

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Calling all small dogs! We know you love toys and treats just as much as the big dogs do, and there’s a dog box subscription just for you. It’s BarkBox, a monthly pet subscription box that’s customized for your dog’s size. This month’s BarkBox theme is Bento & Blossoms.

In case you didn’t know, the National Cherry Blossom Festival happens in DC each Spring and commemorates the gift of Japanese cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo to the people of the US.

March BarkBox for Small Dogs

This month’s BarkBox had 3 full-size treats and 2 fun dog toys. Here’s a quick rundown of what was in the BarkBox for Small Dogs…keep in mind that items will vary based on how you customize your BarkBox subscription for your dog’s size and allergies.

  • Hello Ducky! Dog Treats (Retail Value $8) Made in the USA, 100% natural duck flavored dog treats. Made with potato flour, these treats are corn, soy, grain, and gluten free.
  • Mr. Porkle Pork Teriyaki Treat (Retail Value $6) Made especially for Bark & Co from the folks at Mountain Country Foods in Okeene, Ohio, these soft and chewy dog treats are grain-free and baked with a sweet and savory flavor that your pup will love.
  • Etta Says! Buffalo Chew (Retail Value $3) The crunchy chew sticks from Etta Says! are some of Daisy’s favorite treats and this one is no exception. 7″ long, 100% American made and sourced. Easy to break into small pieces for smaller dogs or just to make it last longer.

  • Sydney’s Salmon Nigiri (Retail Value $8) This sushi dog toy is one of our favorites! Super cute and squeaky. Daisy is always begging when I get sushi, and now she can have her very own.
  • Get That Geta (Retail Value $10) Inspired by the traditional sandals of feudal Japan, which were designed to elevate the foot in an effort avoid ruining kimonos in puddles. We love it because it’s got crinkle material and a squeaker inside, and the ballistic nylon so it’s great for tug, fetch and chewing!

Caught Daisy eating sushi in bed!

If you were to purchase all of these dog toys and treats separately, the retail value totals $35. That’s a pretty great value considering that BarkBox plans start as low as $21 per month including FREE Shipping. In addition to being a smart way to save on dog toys and treats, we also love the surprise factor and how creative the different theme is each month. We always end up discovering new pet brands and products that we wouldn’t have known about or found on our own.

BarkBox makes a great gift, and we’ve sent them to Daisy’s cousin and a few of her other dog pals too!
