We adopted our dog Daisy from a local shelter when she was about three months old. She’d been abandoned, and no one knew anything about her background, history or health. People always ask us what type of dog she is and I usually say she’s “a mutt.” Her daddy likes to call her an “American Dingo.” If we had to guess we’d say she’s part hound and part labrador, maybe a LOT of hound based on how she can howl and sniff.
In addition to wondering about her breed, we also wonder about her health. She’s been a bit of a sick puppy since we got her with everything from food allergies and digestive issues to two different types of cancer so far. Luckily, both cancers were detected early, and we do our best to remain vigilant about her health.
One step we are taking is to learn more about Daisy’s health and genetics with a dog DNA test from Embark. An Embark dog DNA test lets dog parents learn about their pup’s breed and health with a simple cheek swab. It looks at over 250 breeds and more than 175 genetic health conditions and traits.
Embark was our choice of dog DNA test kits for several reasons:
- The most accurate breed identification on the market
- Screens for over 175 genetic conditions
- Includes your dog’s family tree back to great grandparents
- The world’s only canine relative finder
- One simple cheek swab
