Woohoo! Daisy and I are super excited to be participating for the second year in K9 Kamp fitness challenge and we’re inviting YOU and your fur kids to join the fun! As always, K9 Kamp is co-hosted by founders Peggy’s Pet Place and Kol’s Notes.
If you missed out last year, you can read all about it in our K9 Kamp 2012 posts to get caught up…although this year is a little different.
While last year’s event focused on different challenges each week, this year’s mission is more focused on the overall importance of establishing a year-round routine and staying active with your dog.
The challenge: Spend 30 minutes extra, 3-4 times a week, getting fit with your dog. Of course, stick within whatever physical limitations you or your dog may have…and remember to consult a trained professional if you and/or your dog have questions about what’s best for your situation!
Speaking of limitations, I personally have had issues with my knees in the past so I’ve been working up to being able to walk longer distances at high enough intensity to do some good. You may have seen that Daisy’s papa and I have been losing weight together on Nutrisystem. Now that we’ve shed some major lbs. we’re both powering up our workouts a bit more so the timing is perfect for us!
The hubby has actually got a head start on us and recently started training for running his first marathon, but that’s a bit too extreme for Daisy and me…30 minutes extra, several times a week, sounds doable and we’re looking forward to discovering some new hiking trails, fast-paced walks on the beach and maybe even swimming some laps if we can sneak Daisy into the community pool after hours.
Everyone is invited to join us! If you’re a blogger you can write about it on your own blog. If not, join in by leaving updates, tips and stories in the comment section of our posts. This session of K9 Kamp runs May 31-June 21 and there will be loads of fun AND some great prizes we hope you’ll stay tuned and join in the action! Speaking of prizes, be sure to head on over here to find out the details of what you can win and how to enter!
And be sure to visit the other K9 Kamp featured blogs:
A little step aerobics Daisy? That sounds like a good way to burn some calories. Thanks for joining the Hop – look forward to Kamp with you.
Thanks! That’s actually one of our indoor activity photos from last year’s K9 Kamp but Daisy looks SO cute that I had to use it again! See ya at Kamp!
Cupcake & I are in! We are so ready for the K9 Camp experience! Will take a few minutes & read some of the blogs & find out what happened in last years camp!
YAY! So glad to have you joining us for all the fitness fun!
Oh Daisy looks so cute on the stepper! Thanks for joining K9 Kamp again! And good job on the Nutri Systems. I’ve been trying to take off a few pounds that somehow snuck back on too!
Both Wilson and I could use this. I am trying to extend our walks by 15 min each time and add a little extra playtime .
Sissy and I have slimmed down by walking more often and farther. We have added another loop onto our evening walk which now takes 30 to 45 minutes. We also set a “play” schedule in the morning before I go to work.
I love the idea of setting a play schedule in your morning!
I will be attending a fundraising walk tomorrow for a local rescue group. There is another one next week. I will be attending a few of these in addition to walking with my dogs.
You doin’ a little step aerobics Daisy? I like those too. BOL! We’re so glad you guys are joining us. I’ll be interested to see if you can sneak into the pool. I bet THAT would make a great post. BOL
Sounds like K9 Kamp is ideal for your current plans! Good luck to the hubby with the marathon training. That training is the hardest part…staying motivated for those long runs on your own is rough…mom has done it, the first time Katie trained with her which was great because it kept her mind on the dog more than the run. As long as you are starting to get out and exercise it will all happen! Looking forward to Kamping with you!
Hey Daisy,
Sounds like you and your Mom are off to a great start buddy! And the swimming sounds like fun!
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
This is my first time hearing about this, but its great. I walk my dogs everyday for at least 30 min, depending on how I’m doing and I do have older dogs that have some limits. I do think that people should exercise with their dogs.
Congrats on the weight loss. I have been trying to make a lifestyle change for a long time so this challenge is going to help keep me motivated.
i have 3 little 4 legged girls, all min. schnauzers. we stay fit by walking to the mailbox and back everyday. it is a mile one way. we also stay fit by playing ball. Evie, the oldest, likes to run and play kickball and soccer. when it is cool at nite, we all run up the road and back…the girls also like to play frisbee, to see you can get to it first. my girls dont need to lose weight, b/c i watch their diets. however, i am trying to get them in better shape physically….as well as their mom….
today evie and the 2 girls walked to the post office (mailbox), 1 mile plus, evie and i also played ball. the girls played ring around the trees, running around like crazy in their pens, with me edging them on…
it was raining again today, supposed to rain for the next few days….so we just played in the house and on the porch….
well, it was raining again today, tornadoes warnings, so we played inside again, kickball, frizbee
was not rainig today, but too hot for the girls, so played on the porch and walked in the evening
Daisy is too adorable! Have fun at kamp 🙂
