Daisy Christmas help

I’m getting a late start with Christmas decorations but luckily I have Daisy to help me out. She’s a great helper, and you can see from her smile that she is very happy about getting started!

And speaking of helping, the holiday season is the perfect time of year to spread the word about ways YOU can help animals. Our pals over at ASPCA have put together some tips and infographic for animals lovers with 4 Ways to Help Animals this Holiday Season:

1.       Adopt, Don’t Shop

Make adoption your first option this holiday season! Avoid buying anything from pet stores that sell puppies because most of them come from puppy mills. Search for local adoptable animals by visiting www.ASPCA.org/adopt

 2.       Help Local Shelters

Help your local shelter by volunteering your time or finding out what supplies they need. You can also win a grant for your local shelter by entering our “Home for the Holidays” contest with Dogist and Subaru at www.ASPCA.org/holiday

 3.       Have a More Humane Holiday Meal

If you eat meat, eggs, or dairy, look for certifications that require better treatment for animals on farms, specifically Certified Humane, Animal Welfare Approved, and GAP (Levels 2 and above). Visit www.ASPCA.org/labels to view a label guide and get useful tips and info on how to have a more humane holiday

 4.       Host a Holiday Sweet Swap

Consider hosting a holiday bake sale at your office or with friends and family and donate the proceeds to help animals in need. Find out how to start your fundraiser at www.ASPCA.org/SweetSwap

  5. Christine Aiello says

I plan to send donations to some animal rescues and I always drop off blankets, towels and toys to a bunch of shelters in my neighborhood.

  6. heatherzilla says

All of our pets are rescues. We used to be very involved with a local rescue group and over several years we fostered over 60 kittens. Now that illness has stopped me from fostering, I donate and help out where I can.

  7. Dana Kay Murphy says

Me and my husband have been furbaby foster parents for years. Right now we have 4 dogs and 3 cats. I do a lot of bottle baby kittens who have lost their mammas. We volunteer with various rescues in Kansas City that go into the inner city and help people who can’t afford food and vet care with their pets. Also educate them on taking better care of their pets. We provide dog houses and hay in the winter, cool water and shelters and grooming in the summer. Its heartbreaking work but would kill me to not try and help these animals.

  8. We donate pet supplies to our local shelter.

  9. We have rescued every one of our pets. 🙂

  10. All of our pets are rescues, and we volunteer when we can.

  14. Nicole Lancaster says

My family and I have help animals by donating food, blankets and cash donations to our local shelter and a dog rescue. We have also fostered shelter dogs and cats in the past.

  15. Both of our dogs are rescues. One from the SPCA (what is the difference between this and ASPCA?) and our other pooch was homeless. In addition I frequently donate to animal friendly causes.

  16. Shawndra Befort says

All of our pets have been adopted from shelters. I also use coupons to get lots of pet supplies and donate them to our local shelter.
