I recently told you about Sweet Relish, the new social shopping community, and how they are helping rescue dogs by making a donation of $1 for each new subscriber when you join. It’s super fun, very similar to Pinterest, and just as addictive! If you missed it, you can read all about it here.

Sweet Relish Box

Several of you wanted to know more about the Sweet Relish Box we received, based on the “Adopted Dog Take Home List” we created using Sweet Relish. We’re super excited about it because the rescue group we’re supporting, Have a Heart, will receive the same box for sweet boy Luther to take home with him when he’s adopted…hopefully VERY soon! You can see adorable photos of Luther and connect with him at http://www.facebook.com/AdoptLuther.

One of our favorite items in the Take Home Box is the Thundershirt Dog Anxiety Wrap. Daisy is about 50 pounds and wears a large. It’s important to get a good fit since it’s the gentle pressure of the shirt that creates the calming effect. They come in sizes from XXSmall to XXLarge so there is a perfect size for every dog out there. And at $39.95 it’s a great deal. I don’t know about you, but I’d pay any price to make Daisy feel relaxed and prevent the stress and anxiety so many dogs suffer from.

Discover, Share and Shop with Sweet Relish

Sweet Relish helps you to create lists, browse, and buy products you love. What makes it so special is that, similar to the way Pinterest works, you can share your lists with friends, and view lists created by other people, which is a sure way to discover sweet new stuff you didn’t even know about!  Whenever you find an item online that you might want to buy in the future, you just click the relish button in your browser and add the item to one of your shopping lists. You can also use it to make a wish list if you want to drop some hints to a special someone about what to get you for your birthday or other special occasion.

And speaking of a special someone, meet Luther! Isn’t he gorgeous??? He’s a rescue dog, saved from death row and being cared for by Have a Heart rescue group in South Florida. Luther is a Lab/Hound mix…just like what we guess Daisy to be (she’s a rescue dog, too), and we really hope someone will adopt him soon and make him a part of their forever family. He’s about three and we hear he’s great with kids!

Take Home List for Adopted Shelter Dogs

I’m using Sweet Relish to create the perfect “Take Home List” for Luther, so when he gets adopted, his new family will know about some very special items to help him feel comfortable as he adjusts to his new life and home. It actually makes a great guide for anyone adopting a rescue dog…getting so close to death row, and spending so much time in shelters and foster homes, these dogs deserve some special care! I based my list on our own experiences adopting Daisy and included some items we found helpful in her adjustment, as well as some new items worth trying.

Unleash The Power Of The Female Brain {Book Review + Giveaway}

PBS fans might already be familiar with Dr. Amen, renowned brain expert and best-selling author. He’s actually a neuropsychiatrist, and I’m a big fan of his work, having watched several of his shows on PBS, seen him on Dr. Oz and other programs. I recently received a review copy of his most recent book, Unleash The Power Of The Female Brain and have been devouring it over the past week or so.

I’ll admit that when I first heard about this book, I was a bit skeptical. I mean most of us women already tend to believe that we are smarter than men, but is there really a difference between men’s and women’s brains? Why do women need a special book about it???

By comparing the scans of male and female brains using a technique called SPECT, Dr. Amen and his team were able to identify and understand some of the special strengths and vulnerabilities of the female brain. This book explains the unique features of a woman’s brain and details the ways we can help ourselves be happier and healthier by caring for our brain more than we care for any other body part.

It turns out, the strengths of a woman’s brain include Intuition, Empathy, and Self-Control. The downside is that women’s brains also make us more vulnerable to anxiety, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.

Show Off Your Kid’s Best Messy Moment to Win a Disney Vacation from Lysol

Got a kid who touches everything? Add pets to the mix and you’ve got double the work keeping hands clean and free from germs! There’s a super fun no-touch hand soap system from Lysol that lets kids be kids while helping to prevent germs and mess from spreading.

You probably already know how important it is to wash your hands frequently, especially after handling pet food, cleaning the kitty litter box or scooping your dog’s poop. It’s gross, but as responsible pet parents, mess and germs come with the territory. If you’ve also got human kids, it’s important to start teaching them about how to keep their hands clean and germ-free when playing with and caring for pets.

Frequent hand washing is an obvious step but did you know that the average hand soap pump can be really germy? Think about how many times a day you, your family members and guests all touch it. We’ve started using the Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System which automatically dispenses just the right amount of soap without having to touch the pump with dirty hands.

The starter kit comes with batteries and an anti-bacterial hand soap refill, so you have everything you need to help stop the spread of germs and bacteria.  You just pop the soap container in, turn the switch to the ON position and you’re ready to go!

Daisy Gets a Visit from Minnie Mouse! New Disney Line for Dogs at PetSmart

Daisy has been hard at work again, testing super cute Minnie Mouse dog toys that PetSmart sent over from their new Disney line.

I’m really happy about having something pink for her, especially the adorable Minnie Mouse bandana, since she’s often mistaken for a boy…and her daddy usually steers clear of buying her too much girly stuff. She really tried hard to be a good model so you could see everything, but was so eager to play with her new gal pal Minnie, that she looks pretty intense in most of the photos.

The bandana has velcro for easy fastening which is super handy since she doesn’t usually sit still to let me tie anything on her! And there’s no knot to struggle with when it’s time to take it off, either. I saw that PetSmart also has a Mickey Mouse bandana in red if that’s more your dog’s style.

In fact, whether your dog is into the Muppets or more of a Disney Princess fan, you’ll find some really cute toys, shirts and bows featuring characters including Tinkerbell, Tigger, Donald Duck, Miss Piggy and loads more favorites.
