In celebration of Earth Hour, Groupon is promoting a very special deal that gives back! Earth Hour is March 29 at 8:30 pm local time, and is the time that World Wildlife Fund (WWF) asks that you turn off your lights for one hour! Groupon is teaming with WWF by offering a $10 Donation Deal to the World Wildlife Fund!

Installing Solar Panels for Low-Income Families

All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by World Wildlife Fund to enable college students to install solar panels in underserved communities. Every $10 raised will support an estimated 10 watts of solar power, which students participating in the GRID Alternatives’ Solar Spring Break will install for low-income families.

The campaign’s goal is to reach $6,000, which—combined with solar incentives and in-kind donations from manufacturing partners—would cover the cost of one full spring-break project, including training materials for 10–12 students and the installation of equipment for approximately 3,000 watts of solar power for two families in communities served by GRID Alternatives. 100% of donations go directly to World Wildlife Fund. Donations are automatically applied.

What NOT to Buy? Pet Store Puppies!

This time of year, my blog is filled with suggestions and advice on what to buy for just about every fur kid and pet lover on your holiday gift list. I wanted to just take a sec, and bring you a very important message about what NOT to buy this holiday season (or ever)!

Please DON’T buy pet store puppies or anything else from ANY store that sells puppies!

You see, most pet store puppies come from puppy mills—you know, those huge, factory-like breeding operations where dogs live in horrible conditions and never receive love. Every time you buy anything from a pet store that sells puppies, you’re actually supporting this very cruel industry.

The ASPCA has a great new video that helps to educate the public about this, so please take time to watch it and help spread the word by sharing it with everyone you know!

This talented artist is using her beautiful voice to support National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR). Profits from her Christmas Giving of the Heart album go to support the work and mission of NMDR to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home discarded puppy mill dogs and to educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry.
