I can’t believe another year has past since we last celebrated Daisy’s adoption anniversary or “Gotcha Day”! The actual date is still a few weeks away (July 21st) but I thought now was a great time to begin the celebrations! I decided to treat myself to a gift to commemorate four lovable years with our silly rescue pup, and bought myself an Alex and Ani Paw Print Charm Bracelet to mark the occasion.

Not only is it symbolic because of the paw print design, but it’s also got a special meaning because it’s part of the Alex and Ani Charity by Design collection, meaning that 20% of sales will go directly to supporting, healing, and finding caring homes for dogs and cats. Plus it’s SUPER cute, so what’s NOT to love about it?!?

We wouldn’t dream of leaving YOU out of the celebration, so we’re hosting a giveaway and treating one lucky winner to their choice of silver-tone or gold-tone Alex and Ani Paw Charm Bracelet!!!

Entering is super fast and easy. Just use the Rafflecopter widget below and complete as few or as many of the optional entry methods as you wish. The giveaway is open to US residents age 18+. Good luck to everybody, and thanks so much for being a part of our online family!

Today, shelter pets will take over Facebook for the fourth year in a row! Help celebrate and spread the word about pet adoption. People are three times more likely to go to a shelter or rescue group if they have talked to someone else who has. Be that someone!

All you have to do is post a photo and story about your adopted pet to your Facebook profile today. Be sure to tag the Shelter Pet Project, and use hashtag #CelebrateShelterPets. And feel free to share your post to our wall so we can celebrate together since Daisy is an adopted shelter pet, too!

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day: Come Celebrate With Us!

dress up pet day

Today is a National Holiday!!! Well not really, since everyone still has to go to school and work and everything…but it IS a very special day for pets who enjoy dressing up and showing off their style.

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day!!!

Before you get too carried away, remember that not all pets enjoy dressing up, and it’s mean to force them to be uncomfortable or stressed out strictly for your own amusement. Daisy puts up with a bandana, hat or shirt now and then but that’s about it. We’re also down here in Florida where it’s really warm so she prefers the clothing-optional lifestyle.

Come Celebrate with Us on Facebook!

Whether your dog likes wearing a bow, scarf, fancy collar, or has a whole wardrobe of canine couture, come celebrate National Dress Up Your Pet Day with us over on Facebook. Just snap (or find) a photo of your dog, cat or other critter in their favorite apparel, accessory or just showing of their fine fur coat and share it with us on our Facebook page here!

Leave Us a Comment!

What’s your pet’s fashion style? Do they enjoy dressing up or prefer to go au naturale? Leave us a comment and let us know! And don’t forget to stop by Facebook and share your favorite photos with us!

Celebrate Take Your Dog To Work Day: Friday June 22nd!

Take Your Dog To Work Day 2012

Tomorrow, June 22nd is Take Your Dog To Work Day! Since I work from home, every day is Take MY Dog To Work Day, but if you work in an office or other location it can be a very special day for you, your dog AND your co-workers! Here’s some information about the day to help you prepare and make the most of it.

First celebrated in 1999, Take Your Dog To Work Day (TYDTWDay) was created to celebrate the great companions that dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs.

This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTWDay. Employers are encouraged to open their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this one special day! You can listen to a really cute Take Your Dog To Work Day Song here!

7 Rules for Success on TYDTWDay:
1) Do an office check.

Check with management and co-workers to see if anyone is allergic, afraid of or opposed to you bringing your dog to work for this one special day.

2) Puppy-proof your work space.

Remove poisonous plants, hide electrical cords and wires and secure toxic items such as correction fluid, permanent markers, etc. Any office items in question should be placed out of your dog’s reach.

3) Bathe and groom your dog before its office debut.

Be sure its shots are up-to-date. If your dog appears sick, don’t bring it to the office. Dogs that are aggressive or overly shy should not accompany you to work. Instead, consider bringing a favorite picture of your pooch.

4) Prepare a doggie bag.

Include food, treats, bowls, toys, leash, paper towels, clean-up bags and pet-safe disinfectant (just in case). If you are routinely in and out of your work space, consider bringing a portable kennel for your dog’s comfort and your peace of mind.

5) Plan your pet’s feeding times carefully.

Be sure to choose an appropriate area for your dog to relieve himself afterward.

6) Avoid forcing co-workers to interact with your dog.

Dog lovers will make themselves known. To avoid pet accidents, monitor the amount of treats your pet is being given. Remember that chocolate, candy and other people food should not be shared with dogs.

7) Have an exit strategy.

Although most dogs enjoy TYDTWDay, your pet may not. Should your dog become overly boisterous, agitated or withdrawn, consider taking him or her home. Most companies allow for this on TYDTWDay. Never, under any circumstance, leave your pet alone in a vehicle while you work.

If you’d like to get involved and participate, there are plenty of resources available on the TYDTWDay website including these handy downloads:
