BarkBox Review + Coupon: Secrets of the Rainfurrest

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Daisy and I are back with a new BarkBox review and this one is WILD! Each month’s theme is different, and this month the BarkBox theme is Secrets of the Rainfurrest, with tasty treats and silly critters from the tropical jungle.

As with each month’s dog subscription box from BarkBox, this one included 2 fun toys inspired by the theme, plus 2 full-size bags of dog treats and a tasty meat chew. You can expect a value of $40-$50 worth of dog toys and treats in each month’s BarkBox, for as low as $21/month including free shipping for US. Read on to see what we thought of this month’s BarkBox.

Daisy gets the large dog box which is shown in our BarkBox reviews, but whatever size your dog is, they will get the same number of toys and treats in appropriate sizes. Treats are also customized based on whether you specify food allergies in your dog’s BarkBox profile.

We hope you’ll stay for our BarkBox review but if you are just here for the BarkBox coupon, code WOOFWOOFMAMA will get you a FREE extra month added to any order of 1-month or more at BarkBox.com/woofwoofmama.

Note that this is the Classic BarkBox edition which usually includes plush toys. If your dog is a real toy destroyer then check out the BarkBox Super Chewer edition instead.

BarkBox subscription prices start at $21/month and shipping is free for US and Canada. Most toys are Bark exclusives and all treats are made in the US or Canada (we’ve seen some lamb treats from New Zealand and we’re ok with that!)

Here’s a look at what was in the August 2018 Classic BarkBox along with the retail values of each item if purchased separately:

August BarkBox Dog Toys

Monkey C Monkey Chew Dog Toy ($16 retail value) This silly monkey dog toy is filled with a spiky ball covered in plush and long, shreddable fur for pups who love to let it rip! Limbs feature Crazy Crinkle for extra sound effects dogs love. The spiky ball is also like an extra bonus toy that we can keep around after the plush parts of the toy are gone.

Mutta Morphing Butterfly Dog Toy ($16 retail value) This is one of the MOST unique and exciting toys we’ve received because inside the tearable mesh cocoon lives a very furry butterfly that’s stuffed with a spiky tube squeaker. Wings and antennae are filled with crinkle for more fun sound effects!

The tags on the BarkBox toys do a great job of describing the features of each toy so you know what to expect as soon as you receive your BarkBox.

Here’s how the butterfly dog toy looked emerging from the cocoon. Super cute, right?!

August BarkBox Dog Treats

Etta Says! Duck Stick Dog Chew ($3 retail value) We will never turn down the chance to get our paws on these crunchy meat sticks from Etta Says! I mention it almost every time, these are one of our favorite things! 7 inches of tasty goodness. I usually break them in half so that they last longer.

Bark of the Wild Trout and Vegetable Dog Treats ($8 retail value) Soft and chewy treats are nice because they are easy to break into smaller pieces when I want to use them as training treats. Fish is one of Daisy’s favorites so these are a BIG hit!

Bark of the Wild Pork and Vegetable Dog Treats ($8 retail value) These are from the same line as the trout treats but with pork as the protein instead. I love the packaging of BarkBox treats as they are always cute enough for gifting and are very informative for pet parents concerned about what we feed our fur kids.

We were really happy with this month’s BarkBox goodies, but know that if you every receive a toy or treat that doesn’t make you happy or that isn’t suitable for your dog, BarkBox will send you a FREE replacement with no questions asked. You don’t even have to send back the unwanted item. They encourage you to donate or share it, and will send you a replacement more to your dog’s liking! It’s part of their Scout’s Honor Satisfaction Guarantee that comes with every delivery.

BarkBox Cost and Value

By our calculation, this month’s BarkBox had $51 worth of dog toys and  treats if you were to purchase them all separately.

That’s an amazing value when you consider that subscription prices start at $21/month with free US shipping.

In addition to saving money, we also love the WOW-factor and excitement of getting a new delivery of surprises each month. It’s a chance to discover new dog treats and toys that we might not have known about otherwise. And the BarkBox toys are really Instagram-worthy, making them the perfect photo props in addition to some amazing dog toys. Daisy in NOT in the mood for photos and just wants to go play with her new toys!

August BarkBox Review + Coupon (Total Eclipse Edition)

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Not only is BarkBox the most popular subscription box service for dogs, it’s also out of this world…especially this month! The August BarkBox theme was Invasion of the Space Squirrels and that was perfect to go with this week’s spectacular solar eclipse. In addition to 2 amazing dog toys and 3 tasty dog treats, the BarkBox also included some Canine-O-Vision space glasses. Special glasses so your dog could watch the total eclipse of the sun? Not exactly, but I’ll get to later.

We hope you’ll stay for our monthly BarkBox review, but if you’re just here for the BarkBox coupon code, scroll straight down to the end and find out how to snag a FREE BarkBox with any order of 1 month or longer!

Daisy’s been getting her BarkBox deliveries for several years now, and it’s still something we always look forward to! Each month we show you what toys and treats are inside that month’s BarkBox, and how the total value of the individual items compares to the price of a monthly subscription.

Be aware that each BarkBox subscription is customized for your dog’s size and allergies, so individual items will vary. Here’s what we got in her August Space-Themed BarkBox:

August BarkBox Dog Treats

Double Pork Apple Bar ($3 retail value) We get super excited whenever Daisy gets Etta Says! dog treats in her BarkBox. They are always full of crunchy, meaty goodness and this time we got double the yum with 2 crunch bars of pork and apple. One to enjoy now, and one to save for later.

Astro Bacon Dog Treats ($6 retail value) Everyone loves bacon, even aliens! These tasty treats have bacon blended with pork stock and molasses in an oat-and-brown rice batter to create a chewy, smoky snack. Wheat-free and all-natural.

Koha Jerky Bites ($8 retail value) These wild game flavor dog treats are a blend of pork liver and venison. Their grain-free, and only 4 calories per treat. We like the small size of these for pocket treats and training rewards.

August BarkBox Dog Toys

Mighty Mort Space Squirrel Dog Toy ($12 retail value) Born on Planet Squirrelion, this cute guy is full of squeaks and fun. He’s got a long furry tail that’s ideal for shredding and thrashing, and four tentacles that are perfect for a pup who loves to fetch and carry their alien pal while they play.

Pup and Away! Spaceship Dog Toy ($12 retail value) This toy is perfect for fetching and a game of tug, thanks to the rope at the end.  Daisy’s been having a blast flinging it around and chasing it when we launch it into orbit.

I’d mentioned that this month’s BarkBox included a very special pair of glasses. Since everyone we know has been hunting to find a pair of eclipse glasses, that’s what I first thought when I saw them. The info card explained that these special glasses are actually decoder glasses and that the paper in the box is encoded with some special messages.

“Look at the paper with the Canine-O-Vision glasses to decode the epic battle of Star-Pup vs Space Squirrel!”

I love the clever extras and attention to detail that the BarkBox folks come up with each month and this is a great example!

BarkBox Cost and Value

By our calculation, this month’s BarkBox had $41 worth of dog toys and treats if you were to purchase them all separately. That’s a great value when you consider that subscription prices start at $21/month with free US shipping.
