Giving Tower ASPCA help animals in need

First came Black Friday, and then was Cyber Monday…and today is Giving Tuesday — a chance to give back to a cause you care about. We know that as pet lovers, you feel as strongly as we do about helping animals in need and this year ASPCA has teamed with Crowdrise, one of the largest fundraising platforms on the Internet, to celebrate Giving Tuesday.

When you make a donation HERE, you’ll be supporting the important work of the ASPCA AND help build the Crowdrise Giving Tower, a large virtual tower built by donation “bricks” from generous people like you. You’ll be able to see the impact your donation is making in real time!

We heard some super exciting news from our pals at ASPCA and wanted to share it with all of you!

Just last week, the winning shelter was announced in the ASPCA Rachael Ray 100K Challenge. This is the annual challenge in which animal shelters around the country compete to see who can save the most lives. The grand prize winning shelter receives $100K to help them continue their important work. You can go here to view all the winners and prizes.

This marks the fifth and final year of the competition. Since 2010, hundreds of contestants have dedicated themselves to this three month contest to increase their adoption numbers over the same period the previous year.

This year, the competing shelters saved more than 68,000 lives in just three months. In five years total, challengers saved more than a 282,000+ lives! Pet adoption is an important cause and is especially near and dear to my heart, because our Daisy is a rescue dog we adopted from a local shelter.

We hope you’ll join us in continuing to help save lives & support pet adoption:

What NOT to Buy? Pet Store Puppies!

This time of year, my blog is filled with suggestions and advice on what to buy for just about every fur kid and pet lover on your holiday gift list. I wanted to just take a sec, and bring you a very important message about what NOT to buy this holiday season (or ever)!

Please DON’T buy pet store puppies or anything else from ANY store that sells puppies!

You see, most pet store puppies come from puppy mills—you know, those huge, factory-like breeding operations where dogs live in horrible conditions and never receive love. Every time you buy anything from a pet store that sells puppies, you’re actually supporting this very cruel industry.

The ASPCA has a great new video that helps to educate the public about this, so please take time to watch it and help spread the word by sharing it with everyone you know!

After you watch our video, please remember to share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, and kindly ask them to share it, too. Be sure to use the hashtag #AdoptDontShop. Daisy & I are really counting on you to help ASPCA reach millions of people with this important message.

Know of a pet store in your area that sells puppies, or want to see which stores do?

Visit the ASPCA map & database to search or add info about pet stores that sell puppies!

Want to do more?

Show your support & Take The Pledge that if a pet store sells puppies, you won’t buy anything there. Not pet food, kitty litter, or squeaky toys — Nothing! And pledge to tell everyone you know not to shop there either!

Also, if you’re really into helping end puppy mills, sign up for a chance to win a free ASPCA Puppy Mill Advocacy Pack. It contains all sorts of cool gear, including a puppy mill message tote, a puppy mill message tee and more!
