taste myth

We’ve been so busy enjoying our food and progress on Nutrisystem, that we hadn’t even noticed that there are some big-time myths and misconceptions floating around out there about the program.

I only discovered this because I was on YouTube today checking out some of the videos other people have done to show off their weight loss success stories and saw a new one called Nutrisystem Mythbusting. I guess the hubby and I are also Nutrisystem Mythbusters, since we’ve been living the program for over 4 months now and sharing weekly updates with you about our experiences!

Here are just some of the myths the video exposes:

Myth: You can’t enjoy the foods you love on Nutrisystem.
Truth: There are 150+ foods to choose from including pizza, pasta, cheesecake and more.

Myth: Nutrisystem food is too expensive
Truth: You can save over 25% versus eating on your own.

Myth: The people in Nutrisystem ads are paid actors.
Truth: The ads only feature people who have truly found weight loss success using Nutrisystem.

Myth: Nutrisystem doesn’t offer one-on-one counseling or support.
Truth: Nutrisystem has trained weight loss counselors, nutritionists and diabetes educators.

Nutrisystem Update Week 17: Romantic Diet-Friendly Valentine’s Day Meals and Desserts

Nutrisystem Valentines Treat

Valentine’s Day is coming, and since the hubby and I are doing the Nutrisystem program together, we’ve been planning ahead for how to celebrate while still staying on track with our weight loss.

Dieting might not seem like the most romantic topic for a Valentine’s Day post, but one of the things we love about being on the plan is that we’re doing it together and we’re having fun with it! Instead of our usual update, we’ve put together a special list of some of our favorite Nutrisystem foods and desserts to plan the perfect day of romantic meals:

Breakfast in Bed

Ham And Cheese Omelet

Hubby’s favorite is the Turkey Bam & Cheese omelet, while mine is the Garden Veggie one. We get both with our frozen food order, so we trade off. Instead of Mimosas, make fancy glasses of sparkling water with just a splash of fresh squeezed OJ for a low-cal cocktail and enjoy breakfast in bed!

Spicy Kung Pao Noodles for Lunch

Kung Pao Noodles

Spice things up for lunch with Nutrisystem’s new Kung Pao Noodles! I like to make a side of steamed baby bok choy with just a tiny bit of hoisin sauce and crushed peanuts on top to make the meal feel extra special. Using chopsticks is fun and helps you to eat more slowly, too.

Comfort Food for Dinner

For most men, one sure way to win their heart is with good old-fashioned comfort food! The hubs is no exception, so I’m planning to make  Nutrisystem’s Chicken Pot Pie. I’m still trying to decide on the perfect side to go along with it so let me know if you have a suggestion. I’m thinking roasted brussels sprouts since we both love those, or maybe a fancy salad with strawberries and spinach.

Nutrisystem Update Week 15: Celebrating 25 Pounds Lost So Far! #NSNation

Nutrisystem 25 pounds lost

Time for our weekly  Nutrisystem update and I have big news:  I’m celebrated a milestone this week with 25 pounds lost in 15 weeks! I know that some people might look at this and think that taking nearly 4 months to lose 25 pounds seems slow, but it’s an average of 1.66 pounds per week so I’m pretty thrilled with how I’m doing. Since there’s no 25 lb Nutribear, I created this early Valentine to reward myself!

Do I wish I could lose more, faster? Of course! But I just keep reminding myself that all the experts say slow and steady is healthier and easier to maintain in the long run. Compared with other methods I’ve tried, I’m definitely finding this plan the easiest to follow and it’s really helped us both to re-evaluate our relationship with food and relearn what proper portion sizes look like.  Tracking everything we eat has become such a habit that I’m sure we will continue even after finishing the program. We also have such a great variety of food options that we rarely feel deprived, which I’m learning is another key to success.

The other big news this week is that we’re going to continue on the Nutrisystem program for another 3 months! We’d originally planned to do 4 months, but are SO happy with how things are going and not getting tired of the meal plan at all…plus, we are both on such a positive course toward meeting our weight loss goals that we can’t quit now. We’ve each got less than 20 pounds left to go! BIG thanks and HUGS to our Nutrisystem advisor Meredith for supporting us with positive feedback and words of encouragment each week, and for arranging for us to continue!

Now for this week’s weight loss update. I lost 1.2 lbs this week for a total so far of 25.6 lbs lost…woohoo! Daisy’s papa didn’t lose anything this week, but didn’t gain either. He’s lost a total of 42.2 pounds in 15 weeks, so having a zero week isn’t fazing him much. One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is to just stick with it and don’t get discouraged. Nutrisystem Update Week 14: Getting More Veggies with Green Smoothies! #NSNation

green smoothie for weight loss

Happy to report that the hubby and I had another great week on our  Nutrisystem program! We love that our meals are already prepared and portion controlled but one thing we sometimes struggle with is how to get enough veggies every day. In one of my earlier updates I wrote about 4 yummy ways to eat your veggies, and we still use those, but I find that it’s good to change things up a bit and am trying to build more variety into our eating routine.

I’d been interested in making my own green smoothies for quite some time, and finally got myself organized to get started. Turns out it’s super easy and fits well with the Nutrisystem guidelines. The only thing to watch out for is the higher calorie and higher sugar ingredients that some recipes call for. My strategy is to include 2-3 servings of vegetables and 1 SmartCarb per smoothie. There’s lots of room for experimentation, and you can use ALL the veggies you want, but if you use multiple types of fruits in one smoothie, remember to still stick to the guidelines. For example 1 SmartCarb could be 1/2 an orange plus 1/2 an apple. Or 1/3 an orange plus 1/3 an apple and 1/3 cup of berries.

It’s fun to experiment and I’ll share the recipe for one of my favorites so far. I like making it as my afternoon snack but you could juggle things around a bit and have it earlier or later in the day depending on how you like to use your SmartCarbs and Extras.

I like using the NutriBullet Blender and here’s what’s in this green smoothie:
