This post is brought to you by our sponsor, “Always Eat After 7 PM”. The opinions expressed below are my own.

My usual healthy eating routine has gone out the window with the coronavirus shutdown and stay at home order. I’ve been wanting to start a new diet but find most are too restrictive and kept putting it off til I received a review copy of a new book called Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. I receive a lot of books to review but the title of this one REALLY caught my attention.

Most diets, at least the ones I’ve tried, say that eating after 6 or 7 is forbidden. Bestselling author, Joel Marion, is a fitness expert and nutritionist debunking the myths underlying traditional dieting and offers a simple, highly effective weight loss program. The author explains in the very first pages of the introduction why you absolutely should rethink eating at night. In the introduction, Joel writes:

“I’m a science geek, so I dug through peer-reviewed journals and databases. I took a deep dive into the research to learn what really happens in our bodies if we eat late at night. I reached out to my circle of contacts in the natural health field—the doctors, scientists, and innovative experts I’ve built relationships with over the years, people who stay on top of the latest research studies and cutting-edge information. I even talked to my bodybuilder friends, who tend to be pretty lean. Even they were eating late at night, they told me, because it helps develop muscle! What I was discovering blew my mind. The research was crystal clear: eating your largest meals at night can actually be the hidden key to losing fat quickly and safely and won’t necessarily make you gain weight. I had to experiment on myself first to see if it would work. Well, the results were nothing short of remarkable. I dropped 12 pounds in under two weeks. My abs were significantly flatter. My cravings for unhealthy food vanished. After 16 weeks on my new plan, I had lost a total of 46 pounds. At my next medical checkup, my doctor was shocked at how good my blood work had gotten, so quickly.”

The introduction was enough to make me want to learn more and try it for myself. Over the next 4 weeks, I’ll be sharing my experiences with the book and diet.

Basically, the Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.

After struggling to get back to a healthier weight for a while now, I’m excited to try something new and hopefully will drop some pounds and increase my energy levels, too. I’ll keep you posted on my progress, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out this intro video from Joel on his background and what motivated hi to write the book.

Balance by bistroMD: Healthy Meals Delivered To Your Door (Because Pet Parents Should Eat Well Too!)

Ever feel like you take better care of your fur kids than you do of yourself? You’re not alone! Whether you are too busy, or just tired of adulting, home food delivery has become a popular alternative to cooking. Woof Woof Papa and I love to cook but often get tired of meal planning, shopping and the prep-work that goes into making healthy meals. And our schedules mean that we don’t always have time to cook and eat at the same time. Sometimes it just seems easier to grab takeout or order delivery, and that isn’t the healthiest or most economical way to eat.

We were recently invited to try the meals from Balance by bistroMD. It’s the first meal delivery service to offer chef-prepared meals a-la-carte, without the constraint of minimums, memberships, or recurring orders. The top-rated diet delivery and weight loss program, bistroMD, created this subscription-free service to provide healthy meals with convenience and flexibility.

Balance by bistroMD fits health-conscious lifestyles, whether you’re trying to lose weight, adhere to a specialty diet such as gluten free, or just want to eat healthy without the struggle. When we went to their website to place our first order, we were impressed with the wide variety of over 100 meals and snacks available, and prices start at just $5.95.

The ordering process is super easy…the only hard part was deciding which meals to get, because they all looked so good! To narrow down the choices, you can filter meals by diet type, including Low Sodium, Heart Healthy, Gluten Free, Diabetic Meals and other options. We ordered a few breakfast items, because we are trying to do better at not skipping breakfast. And we also ordered a variety of lunches and dinners, too. Everything arrived within a few days, shipped in an insulated cooler packed with dry ice. Even though the box sat out on our porch in the South Florida heat for most of the morning, all the meals were still frozen when I unpacked everything.

In addition to doing the cooking and delivering your meals straight to your door, the folks at Balance by bistroMD also send the instructions and info you need to make the most of your food delivery. For example, although you can microwave the meals straight from the freezer, they recommend you move your upcoming day of meals to the fridge the night before to thaw for more even reheating. They also suggest that you place your entree on a plate because visualization is an important part of dining.

This was my attempt to plate the Ham and Cheese Frittata. It came with a side of peaches with a tasty whole grain granola crumble. I added avocado slices because I cannot go a day without eating avocado! Although I can see the logic in their suggestion to plate the meals to make the dining experience more enjoyable, most times we opted for convenience over aesthetics, and just ate our meals straight out of the BPA-free microwavable trays they came in. Less dishes to wash!

Overall, we were impressed with our order and happy to have a week of no meal planning or prep. The nice thing about the service is that there is no commitment or subscription required. You can order when you feel like you need a break from cooking, or need a little extra help with eating healthy. It’s also a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member, and would be great as a Housewarming present or Mother’s Day gift, too!

How are YOU doing with your New Year’s resolution so far? This year, the hubby and I resolved to continue our healthy eating, keep up the exercise and look for some new hobbies and activities to join. It’s going pretty well so far, but I remember how hard it was back a few years ago when we both started to think about making serious changes to our lifestyle. We were lucky that we had each other, as well as the support of great doctors to encourage us and provide us the tools we needed to both get serious about weight loss AND to quit smoking. It’s been over 4 years now since we quit smoking (after many previous attempts) and I still remember how tough it was even with professional help! And the battle with weight and healthy eating is an ongoing challenge for us and many other people we know.

That’s why, when I heard about the new Weight Loss Program and Quit Smoking Program offered at CVS MinuteClinic, I jumped at the chance to help spread the word!

The Weight Loss Program at MinuteClinic is personalized, provides ongoing coaching and medical supervision. The program is easy to follow, focuses on healthy eating and is clinically proven to promote weight loss. It also has the added benefit of lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. With your initial assessment, you’ll receive membership to DASH for Health™, a great online resource to help you stay on course between visits to MinuteClinic. The Weight Loss Program is covered by most insurance plans, but contact your insurance company prior to visiting MinuteClinic to verify coverage as well as any copays, co-insurance or deductibles.

Want help quitting smoking? Studies show that smokers assisted by a health care provider have a greater chance of kicking the habit. MinuteClinic created this program that’s covered by most insurance plans to help those over 18(and you don’t even need to make an appointment). The program includes one-on-one consultation with a practitioner, including a nicotine dependence assessment. You’ll get an individualized smoking cessation plan and education based on your needs and goals, ongoing coaching and support in your efforts to quit smoking, plus Nicotine-replacement recommendations or prescriptions, based on what’s appropriate for your needs and situation.

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

WOW! So hard to believe that we’re heading into our final week on the Nutrisystem program! If you’re just joining us, the hubby and I have been losing weight together with Nutrisystem. Each week, we post a new update and share tips, info about our experiences, let you know about the program, and tell you how much we’ve lost so far.

Just a reminder that we’re celebrating our Nutrisystem success with a giveaway and it’s your LAST week to enter! WIN a 5-Day Nutrisystem Meal Kit and help jump start your own weight loss (ends 6/9)!!!

Knowing that we are wrapping up our time with Nutrisystem, the hubby and I really pushed extra hard last week and he’s got some super exciting news. He has reached the weight loss goal he set back in October when we started our journey! Not only that, but when we did our weekly weigh-in yesterday morning, he was actually BELOW his goal weight of 190…weighing in at 189.6 lbs, meaning he’s lost a total of 60.4 pounds!

I think I mentioned that Woof Woof Papa has started training for his first marathon, and this is due in no small part to the weight loss he’s been able to achieve thanks to Nutrisystem getting us back on the right path when it comes to portion control and logging what we eat.

I also have a reason to celebrate. Although I haven’t quite reached my goal weight yet, I dropped 3.8 pounds since last week’s weigh-in for a total of 37.8 lbs lost so far. That means I’m only 6.2 lbs away from my goal of 145. I think I’m within a few weeks of reaching it, and I’m going to do my best to do it by the end of June no matter what!

If you missed any of our previous Nutrisystem posts, just visit the links in the table below or click here to catch up! We’d love to hear about your own weight loss experiences, advice and challenges, so leave a comment and share some with us. We’re also happy to answer questions, so ask away!
