Freezy Pups Kit Product Review

Just in time for the dog days of summer, we got the chance to try out Freezy Pups,  a make-at-home kit of organic, frozen dog treats. Freezy Pups come in 4 flavors: Chicken Soup Recipe, White Cheddar Cheese, Juicy Apple and Sweet Potato ‘n Maple. Not only are the super fun and easy to make, but they are also less than 4 calories each. These cool treats are free from wheat, corn, soy and gluten, and contain NO artificial colors or flavors.

Freezy Pups Kit

The Freezy Pups Kit is $19.99 and comes with a Freezy Pups Tray and 4 packs of organic treat mix (one in each flavor; each pack makes one tray). The entire kit is enough to make 56 treats and refill packs are available at the Freezy Pup website for $8.99 per box (makes 70 treats). The first step is to mix a packet with 7 oz. of hot water. If you don’t have a measuring cup that shows ounces, it works out to 7/8 of a Cup. Then just stir.

After mixing, you pour the liquid into the Freezy Pup Tray (I found it easiest to use my Pyrex measuring cup for the whole thing since I could measure, mix and pour from the same container).

Then it’s ready to go into the freezer. Our first batch was the Sweet Potato ‘n Maple, in case you were wondering! We did this in the evening so they would be ready the next day!

Freezy Pups in the freezer

After a few hours the tray of bone-shaped frozen treats is ready to go! A great tip that the makers of Freezy Pups were smart enough to print right on the package is: For easy removal of treats, let the tray rest on the counter for about 4 minutes. That sure does the trick, and they popped right out for us! Here they are up close so you can see how they come out:

In addition to LOVING the treats in their frozen form, Daisy also enjoys when I melt 1 or 2 and mix it with her dry kibble like gravy! She loves all 4 flavor, and I like the fact that they are made with organic, natural ingredients!  These are some of the COOLEST treats we’ve tried and are officially Daisy Tested and Approved!

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

With Memorial Day Weekend comes barbecues, parties and the unofficial start of summer! Three Dog Bakery has just whipped up a new batch of Summer Treats for dogs and we were lucky enough to be among the first to try them!

Hot off the Three Dog Bakery Grill are the new Bark-B-Q Miniature Bones, As with everything from Three Dog Bakery, they are All-Natural, and Made in the USA, so you can feel good about treating your pup with them! These little biscuits are the perfect size for a quick little snack or to keep in your pocket for a surprise treat on the go. They have a mild smokey scent and flavor…so your pup won’t feel left out while YOU are enjoying your BBQ! I try to always make Daisy work for her treats (no free lunch!), or use them to practice and reinforce skills she already knows. Here’s Daisy patiently practicing “wait” while I hold some Bark-B-Q Bones in front of her:

And no Summer Pawty would be complete without watermelon! Fresh from the Three Dog Bakery Garden are Wag-amelon Wafers! These oven baked dog cookies are made with real watermelon flavor, a little honey and molasses plus other all-natural ingredients to create one sweet treat! I taste just about everything that Daisy is invited to sample (if I wouldn’t eat it, why would I give it to her!?!) and these are amazing.  They smell and taste fruity…just like watermelon! I’m glad Daisy can’t count because I’ve stolen more than a couple of her Wag-amelon cookies when she wasn’t looking! Here’s Daisy getting a bed time snack! She’s never too sleepy for a cookie! Sorry the photo is so dark but I realized I needed to get a quick photo before all the cookies were gone!

K9 Kamp Week 1 Highlights – We’re Walking on Sunshine and Running from Rainstorms!

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Daisy smile
As we mentioned last week, we’ve joined in on the fun with Koly & Kelly and the gang for the K9 Kamp 4-week Fitness Challenge! The challenge for week #1 was Walking on Sunshine but since we are heading into our rainy season down here, maybe we should call it Running from Rainstorms! The assignment was to try new ways to “brighten up” your walking…and we didn’t let the weather dampen our spirits!

Daisy and I already have a pretty consistent walking routine but it’s gotten somewhat predictable so we decided to spice things up a bit by adding some variety each day this week. A couple of the days that involved unplanned sprints since we got caught in HUGE downpours – we’ll call that “interval training”. Here’s a few of the other ways we changed things up a bit this week:

balance beam walking on curb
Balance Beam Walking: Daisy already loves walking on the curb and has pretty great balance, so I decided to hop on up there behind her and see how long we could keep walking at a steady pace before one of us fell off. This turned out to be more challenging than I expected because she kept stopping and turning around to wait for me! It’s also really difficult to get a photo while balance-walking AND holding a leash but it was good for a laugh and we’ll keep practicing since it was so much fun!

Nature Walk

Nature Walk: We took in a change of scenery and got off the beaten path with a nature walk this week. Daisy found lots of new smells to sniff so it was slow going at first but we enjoyed it! That is, until we got home and I counted all of my mosquito bites!

Daisy stairs

Stair Climbing: To be honest, we live on the top floor in our building so we already climb stairs several times a day. Since we were looking for ways to boost our activity level this week, we took advantage of the stairs during the rainy days and made a few extra trips up and down. I highly recommend practicing stair climbing with your pup if he or she isn’t used to it. I’ve brought other dogs over to our place while dog walking or pet sitting and had more than one pup freak out or actually take a tumble because they weren’t sure what to do! I’ve also nearly fallen down the stairs myself when their leash got wrapped around my ankles, so practice with treats a few steps at a time and soon they will love stair climbing as much as Daisy does!

Daisy lickety stik low-cal treat

Low Calorie Training Treats: We all know that we work extra hard and try to do our very best when there is an incentive and dogs are no exception! This week I let Daisy try out a new Lickable Dog Treat from PetSafe called Lickety Stik during our fitness challenge. It’s the perfect treat for K9 Kampers because it’s all-natural, and there is only 1 calorie in every 10 licks! Plus, I like that this handy treat is made in the USA and comes in a no mess rollerball dispenser so it’s great for taking on the go without stuffing messy treats into your pockets.  If you are interested in getting your own Lickety Stik, (short commercial break) they come in all-natural Chicken, Liver or Bacon flavors and you can find Lickety Stik Lickable Dog Treats at Amazon! They cost under $7 each or around $18 for a 3 pack and are eligible for Free Shipping! So far, I’m guessing one container will last us about 2-4 weeks.

So, those are a few of the highlights from our first week! How did you do with Week #1 of K9 Kamp Fitness Challenge? Leave us a comment to let us know you stopped by!

Our Favorite Toys and Treats from Polka Dog Bakery at Target {Product Review}

Shops at Target Polka Dog Bakery

The Shops at Target launched earlier this month and includes the limited edition line of Polka Dog Bakery’s yummy treats and fun toys, along with colorful harnesses and collars, too. The kind folks over there invited Daisy to try out a few of these limited-edition pet products and so we could tell you about them! And, since these exclusive products are sure to be popular and sell out quickly, we’ll be giving some away to several lucky readers in a few days! You can get a great behind-the scenes look inside the Polka Dog Bakery Kitchen and score some free recipes at the Target Blog.  Here’s a little bit about the Polka Dog Bakery line at Target:

Polka Dog Bakery Treats

Polka Dog Bakery is a favorite local pet bakery in Boston so it’s no surprise that their dog treats are all-natural and come in several yummy flavors. Daisy tried the Just Ducky, Duck Flavor Crunchies and the Chickeepooh, Chicken Flavor Treats. She LOVES them both, and I love that they are Made in the USA and contain NO wheat, corn, fillers or by products. They are made using only natural ingredients including the featured main ingredient (chicken or duck in ours), rice and potato flour so they are great for dogs with sensitive tummies or allergies, and everyone can feel good about giving them to their fur baby.  We’re looking forward to sharing them with all of Daisy’s pals and trying the other flavors, too!

Polka Dog Bakery Dog Toys

The Polka Dog Bakery at Target line also includes fun and whimsical dog toys like the ones pictured here. Daisy was super excited to see that she received the ice cream sandwich toy. Not only does this toy look exactly like a huge ice cream sandwich…it’s also one of the best squeak toys we’ve seen. She’s had it a few weeks now and the toy is still in great shape and the squeaker is still going STRONG (it’s a loud one which we happen to think is hilarious). For safety and to make them last longer, remember to always supervise your dog when they play with squeak and novelty toys. Here’s Daisy enjoying her Ice Cream Sandwich:

The line also includes colorful dog collars in a variety of cute designs and solid colors as well as bright and stylish harnesses. Whatever your dog’s size or personality, you’re bound to find just the right fit! If you are lucky enough to have Polka Dog Bakery and The Shops at Target near you, then you can browse the aisles for a large selection of items from the full line.

You can also shop the Polka Dog Bakery line from The Shops at Target here for select pet products. And don’t forget to stay tuned, because we are going to make sure that several of our fans and readers get their very own toys, treats and accessories during a huge giveaway event early next week!
