meet the pet bloggers

As pet bloggers, most of us are focused on bringing you photos and stories about our fur kids and don’t spend very much time in front of the camera or writing about ourselves. That’s why this Meet The Bloggers event, hosted by Go Pet FriendlyI Still Want More PuppiesKol’s NotesNo Dog About ItThe Daily Dog BlogMy Brown NewfiesCindyLu’s MuseLife With DesmondBringing Up BellaHeart Like A DogRescued InsanityPeggy’s Pet Place, and NEPA Pets is SUCH a great idea!

They’re giving us all the chance to learn a little more about our favorite pet bloggers, and let our readers know a little bit more about us humans behind the pet blogs you follow & read. Be sure to leave us a comment so we know you stopped by, or questions if you have them! Here’s a little bit about me:

What’s your favorite non-animal related book?

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This magical little book never fails to lift my spirits or give me something new to think about. I’ve read it cover to cover more times than I can count, and given away my copy to someone so many times that I should buy it in bulk! Everyone will find their own meaning in it…for me it’s about staying true to yourself, listening to your inner voice, and always following your dreams.

What drives you nuts about your pets? What melts your heart?

It drives me nuts that Daisy is such a daddy’s girl! She and I spend most of the day together since I work from home…so I think she takes me for granted sometimes LOL! I also don’t get the satisfaction of an uber-excited dog at the end of the day like he does when he walks in the door. What really melts my heart is when she is scared or not feeling well and she climbs on top of me and nuzzles me for comfort. I guess babies really do appreciate their mom most at times like those!

If you could change one thing about your life what would it be?

In a perfect world it would be to move to Hawaii. I don’t know HOW we’d deal with Daisy flying there but I think about it often. I just love everything about the place! More realistically, I’d like us to move to a bigger place, and one with a backyard so that Daisy could have a fur sibling, and more room to play. We’re working on that!

What do you wish you were more skilled at?

Just about everything! I wish I were a better dancer, photographer, cook, housekeeper, writer…lots of room for improvement on all fronts. LOL!

What’s one thing you have to do every day?

Drink coffee (and tea). I can’t go a day without coffee and usually drink several cups a day. I’m also a huge tea fan (Tazo Zen and anything from Teavana are my favorites both hot & iced).

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time at the beach, although we don’t make it there nearly as often as I’d like. I also really enjoy doing workout DVD’s. I’m not a fan of group classes or crowded gyms but I look forward to taking a work break just about every afternoon and doing Hip Hop Abs or Zumba in our living room.

Be sure to hop around to meet all the other paw-tastic pet bloggers participating in the event:

What NOT to Buy? Pet Store Puppies!

This time of year, my blog is filled with suggestions and advice on what to buy for just about every fur kid and pet lover on your holiday gift list. I wanted to just take a sec, and bring you a very important message about what NOT to buy this holiday season (or ever)!

Please DON’T buy pet store puppies or anything else from ANY store that sells puppies!

You see, most pet store puppies come from puppy mills—you know, those huge, factory-like breeding operations where dogs live in horrible conditions and never receive love. Every time you buy anything from a pet store that sells puppies, you’re actually supporting this very cruel industry.

The ASPCA has a great new video that helps to educate the public about this, so please take time to watch it and help spread the word by sharing it with everyone you know!

After you watch our video, please remember to share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, and kindly ask them to share it, too. Be sure to use the hashtag #AdoptDontShop. Daisy & I are really counting on you to help ASPCA reach millions of people with this important message.

Know of a pet store in your area that sells puppies, or want to see which stores do?

Visit the ASPCA map & database to search or add info about pet stores that sell puppies!

Want to do more?

Show your support & Take The Pledge that if a pet store sells puppies, you won’t buy anything there. Not pet food, kitty litter, or squeaky toys — Nothing! And pledge to tell everyone you know not to shop there either!

Also, if you’re really into helping end puppy mills, sign up for a chance to win a free ASPCA Puppy Mill Advocacy Pack. It contains all sorts of cool gear, including a puppy mill message tote, a puppy mill message tee and more!

shelter pet project

Today, shelter pets will take over Facebook for the fourth year in a row! Help celebrate and spread the word about pet adoption. People are three times more likely to go to a shelter or rescue group if they have talked to someone else who has. Be that someone!

All you have to do is post a photo and story about your adopted pet to your Facebook profile today. Be sure to tag the Shelter Pet Project, and use hashtag #CelebrateShelterPets. And feel free to share your post to our wall so we can celebrate together since Daisy is an adopted shelter pet, too!
