ASPCA Party Animal Pillows from PBteen

ASPCA is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Dog Month in a BIG way! Large dogs can often be overlooked because potential adopters think they require a spacious home and a big backyard. But when it comes to adoption, what matters most isn’t the size of your home – it’s the size of your heart. We can vouch for that…Daisy is a 50lb rescue mutt and we live in an apartment.

This October, tell ASPCA why you think BIG dogs rock and enter to win a pair of super CUTE ASPCA Party Animal Pillows from PBteen! And if you’re a proud parent of a bigger-sized dog, please share their photo on social media using the hashtag #BigLove and tagging @ASPCA. Visit www.aspca.org/BigLove for more info and to enter.

clear the shelters

If you’ve been thinking about adding a fur kid to your family, now is your chance! This Saturday, August 15, hundreds of shelters nationwide will participate in an exciting “Clear the Shelters” pet adoption event.

Participating groups and organizations will reduce or completely waive their adoption fees to help connect adoptable animals in their care with safe and loving homes. Visit cleartheshelters.com to find a participating adoption center near you.

This adoption event is organized in partnership with NBC Owned Television Stations and Telemundo Station Group, with the ASPCA providing support for the event in the form of grant funding to a select number of participating organizations across the country.

Not sure what kind of dogs and cats end up as shelter animals? You’ll find everything from pups to seniors, small to large, mutts to pure breeds. We rescued Daisy from a shelter, so this cause is near and dear to my heart!  Please help Clear the Shelters by finding a participating shelter near you and giving a homeless pet a second chance.

Not ready to adopt, or already have a full house? Do your part to help clear the shelters by sharing this post and the hashtag #cleartheshelters to help spread the word!

We heard some super exciting news from our pals at ASPCA and wanted to share it with all of you!

Just last week, the winning shelter was announced in the ASPCA Rachael Ray 100K Challenge. This is the annual challenge in which animal shelters around the country compete to see who can save the most lives. The grand prize winning shelter receives $100K to help them continue their important work. You can go here to view all the winners and prizes.

This marks the fifth and final year of the competition. Since 2010, hundreds of contestants have dedicated themselves to this three month contest to increase their adoption numbers over the same period the previous year.

This year, the competing shelters saved more than 68,000 lives in just three months. In five years total, challengers saved more than a 282,000+ lives! Pet adoption is an important cause and is especially near and dear to my heart, because our Daisy is a rescue dog we adopted from a local shelter.
