poetry contest for kids

Got a creative kid (of the human variety) or know someone who does? Check out this cool new contest especially for the kiddos! Teachers and parents are invited to enter their 3rd-8th grade kids in the 5th Annual Pets Add Life Children’s Poetry Contest!

And why do I think this is so cool? Because your child gets to write a poem about their pet and the joys that come with having a pet in their life! I love sharing opportunities like this one that help kids express their love of pets AND their creativity at the same time!

Six U.S. students (1 per grade level) will each WIN:
  • A $1,000 scholarship for each winning student’s classroom
  • A $250 gift certificate for pet products
  • A “by·line” in a nationally circulated magazine!
Ways to Enter (by January 31, 2013 5pm EST):
    • Enter the poetry contest using this Online EntryForm OR
    • Mail this form with your entry to: Pets Add Life (PAL) 661 Sierra Rose Dr. Reno, NV 89511
    • Teachers: Go HERE for instructions on how to enter your whole classroom

PAL pledge to help homeless pets

In addition to the Poetry Contest, Pets Add Life also has a great Pet Pledge Drive going on right now. Be sure to stop by their Facebook Page and take the pledge to do what you can to help a pet find a forever home. With 3 ways to pledge, it’s a fantastic idea for a New Year’s Resolution!

Make a Special A New Year’s Resolution to Help a Homeless Pet:
  • Pledge to adopt your next pet
  • Pledge to volunteer at a shelter
  • Pledge to share a photo of a homeless pet

Visit PAL’s Pet Pledge on Facebook to make your pet pledge today!

daisy the dog with her hedgehog dog toyWhen I’m feeling down or blue, I can always count on Daisy to cheer me up with a kiss or a cuddle, or just by seeing her funny face! Did you know that pets need companionship, too? Although we have fun together,  Daisy sometimes gets mopey if she goes too long without seeing her buddies. It makes me aware of just how much she loves playing with her doggy pals! We’re lucky that we live in a community where Daisy has lots of play pals to spend time with on a regular basis. two cute dogs hanging out for a visitDaisy recently invited her gal pal Stella for a sleep over. It was the first time one of her pals spent the night and we all had so much fun that I just can’t wait until we are able to adopt a brother or sister for Daisy. It would be so great for all of us, and there are SO many pets out there in need of a forever home!

To help raise awareness, the non-profit campaign Pets Add Life (PAL), has officially declared November 19, National Get A Pal For Your Pet Day. Recognizing the benefits of having multiple pets, the day is set to encourage pet parents to consider adopting additional furry, winged and/or finned family members.

Pledge to Help Homeless Pets

A while back Daisy and I told you about Pets Add Life (PAL), a public service initiative to help spread the word about the benefits and joys of pet adoption. Well, even if you aren’t quite ready to adopt this week or month, or already have a full-house of fur kids, there are other ways you CAN make a difference and help homeless pets in need:

Hop on over to Facebook (it will only take a sec, I promise) and Take the Pets Add Life Pet Pledge. Promise to share a photo of a homeless pet with your social network on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter. So easy! You probably share cute animal photos anyway…don’t we all?!? Or, if you have a bit more time, pledge to volunteer at a shelter. Just these simple steps can make a big difference in the lives of animals in need of a forever family!

And speaking of sharing, have you checked out the Pets Add Life (PAL) videos on YouTube? Each one is a cute and funny “interview” with a talking animal, designed to help share the message and raise awareness for pet adoption. If your pet is an only child, they will definitely get you thinking about how much they would probably LOVE a new brother or sister! Be sure to have a watch and share them with your PALS…everyone loves a funny talking animal video!
