The Week in Dog News: Bailey’s Burrito, Marnie Dies, COVID-19 Pet News + More

There is so much going on in the world right now, that I thought it was time for some dog news. Here’s a roundup of the top news for dog lovers from the past week.

I think we’ve all been guilty of stress eating at one time or another. In campaign news, Elizabeth Warren’s dog Bailey stole a burrito because ‘running for first dog’ was stressful. Bailey has been a star on Warren’s social media accounts and frequently joined her on the campaign trail. Everyone on Twitter is clearly #TeamBailey!

In sadder news, Marnie, the Shih Tzu who charmed Instagram with her head tilt and lolling tongue, died this week at age 18. Marnie was an internet sensation, and poster dog for senior dog adoption. She passed peacefully and will be missed.

There’s lots of news, rumors and confusing information about the Coronavirus, including how COVID-19 may affect pets. Here’s some of what you need to know, but always check with your vet for specific pet health concerns. Pet cats and dogs cannot pass the Coronavirus to humans, but they can test positive for low levels of the pathogen if they catch it from their owner.

Experts have advised that everyone make reasonable (but not panicky) preparations as the coronavirus spreads. That means making sure you are stocked up on pet food and meds so that you don’t run out if you get sick and have to self-quarantine, or there is a shortage in the supply chain. You should also always have a backup plan for who will care for your pets in an illness or emergency.

If you do get sick, limit contact with your pets . Avoid snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. If you must interact with your pet, wash your hands before and after. Hand washing is ALWAYS good advice!

On a lighter note, we thought this sweet dog news was a great way to end our roundup for the week, Titos Vodka for Dog People and The Dinner Party Project hosted a hilarious and adorable Dog Dinner Pawty to help promote pet adoption. Go HERE to check out all the photos. They sure made us smile!

And speaking of smiles, a two-legged pup named Lieutenant Dan is a finalist in the Cadbury Bunny tryouts.
