Emergency Relief Waggin

Daisy and I love bringing you stories about how you can help support efforts to help animals in need. We’ve blogged about how you can take the ASPCA Pledge to End Puppy Mills by promising never to shop for anything at a store that sells puppies. Well, you might have seen the shocking news about the recent puppy mill situation in Johnston, S.C.

The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society of Charlotte were called in by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the rescue of approximately 250 animals including more than 200 dogs of various breeds and ages living in deplorable conditions.

PetSmart Charities heard about what was going on and dispatched its Emergency Relief Waggin’ vehicle, stocked with $90,000 worth of crucial supplies, to the scene where animal rescue teams will operate an emergency shelter. The vehicles are stocked with crucial supplies, including pet food, wire crates, plastic carriers, bowls, fans, and more to aid the animal rescuers on scene.

This is where you can help support the PetSmart Charities’ Emergency Relief program by making a donation online to help more pets like these find the loving homes they deserve. Any amount will help, and no donation is too small.

If you aren’t able to donate money, you can still help by using the “Share the Love” buttons below to share the story with friends and family. Tweet, post to Facebook or Pin to Pinterest! Even just giving this post a “Like” or G+ will help make sure more people know about the need to help support this important work!

ASPCA Website and Resources for Kids

Recently, I’ve been tweeting and sharing news on Facebook to help spread the word about the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge where for the third year in a row, shelters around the country are in a race to save more animals’ lives by competing for grant prizes. That’s all very important, and I hope you’ll help spread the word, too, but it’s also a fairly grown-up concept. I thought it would be fun to share some ways to get the kiddos involved, too.  It’s never too early to start teaching children about being kind to pets and helping animals in need and ASPCA has a special website just for kids, called ASPCA Kids!

I also found cool stuff like this FREE Sprout Printable for Kids that you can download with activities about being kind to animals and pets! There’s also free kid-appropriate videos, and stories about Kids Who Rock. Pledge to Help Homeless Pets

A while back Daisy and I told you about Pets Add Life (PAL), a public service initiative to help spread the word about the benefits and joys of pet adoption. Well, even if you aren’t quite ready to adopt this week or month, or already have a full-house of fur kids, there are other ways you CAN make a difference and help homeless pets in need:

Hop on over to Facebook (it will only take a sec, I promise) and Take the Pets Add Life Pet Pledge. Promise to share a photo of a homeless pet with your social network on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter. So easy! You probably share cute animal photos anyway…don’t we all?!? Or, if you have a bit more time, pledge to volunteer at a shelter. Just these simple steps can make a big difference in the lives of animals in need of a forever family!

And speaking of sharing, have you checked out the Pets Add Life (PAL) videos on YouTube? Each one is a cute and funny “interview” with a talking animal, designed to help share the message and raise awareness for pet adoption. If your pet is an only child, they will definitely get you thinking about how much they would probably LOVE a new brother or sister! Be sure to have a watch and share them with your PALS…everyone loves a funny talking animal video!

This post is sponsored by the Pets Add Life campaign and the American Pet Products Association. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the benefits and joys of pet ownership.
