Daisy Tries Shed Defender, The Dog Onesie That Controls Shedding

For a short-haired dog, Daisy sure does shed a LOT. This means fur on the sofa, in our bed where she sleeps every night, in the car…you name it, we find hair there. So I was super excited to test out the Shed Defender. It’s basically a dog bodysuit that contains pet hair. It also has some other useful features I think dog moms and dads will appreciate.

What is Shed Defender

The Shed Defender is a full-body dog onesie made from a lightweight, breathable fabric, with four-way stretch to allow your dog to move freely. It’s machine washable and dryable. The main purpose is to contain pet hair and prevent your dog from leaving fur everywhere. It can also help reduce anxiety, since its snug fit can create a calming effect (similar to a Thunder Shirt). If you and your dog like to spend time outdoors, you’ll be glad to know that the Shed Defender provides UV protection and helps keep your dog clean. It can be used instead of the dreaded Cone of Shame for certain medical conditions. It even comes with its own little pouch for travel and storage.

Putting It On and Taking It Off

The first time we tried putting the bodysuit on Daisy, it was a bit of a challenge. She doesn’t like new things and was really skeptical about the whole situation. To end up with a positive experience. never force your dog to do something they really don’t want to do. To get her used to it, I just put it on half way at first and then gave her some treats while we hung out.

Once we got the whole thing on and zipped up, it took her about 30 minutes to really be ok with it, and then I think she forgot she had it on. If you are planning to use one when you travel, in the car, or for anxiety reduction, I suggest a few trial-runs at home to get your dog familiar with what to expect.

Size and Fit

As you can see, it fits Daisy pretty well. Although there are MANY sizes available, I was concerned when choosing her size online because usually NOTHING fits her right. T-shirts, Halloween costumes, harnesses, we always seem to have trouble because she’s very slim but has a broad chest. Thanks to the accurate size chart and stretchy fabric, we didn’t have a problem. She’s 48lbs and is wearing the Large.

The model we got is the Original, with a full zipper, but Shed Defender also makes a Sport edition where the zipper stops at the belly, allowing easier access for potty.

Play Your Way To Good Manners Dog Training Book Review

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Dog lovers, there’s a brand new dog training book dropping this week. Daisy and I got an early copy so we could check it out and tell you all about it.

It’s Play Your Way To Good Manners, Getting the Best Behavior from Your Dog through Sports, Games, and Tricks. The authors are accomplished dog trainers Kate Naito and Sarah Westcott.

There are many dog training books out there, but what we really love about this one is that it focuses on The Power of Play. I think we all know that learning is faster and more effective when we’re having FUN, but we often forget this when it comes to training our dogs. This book focuses on positive reinforcement and takes the frustration out of teaching AND learning.

Training topics include these basics: sit, down, stay, recall, and leashed walking; PLUS cute tricks, advanced tips, and games to beat boredom and encourage good manners.

Go HERE to get a look inside the book.

Spot Magazine says, “If you live with a dog, or plan to live with a dog, or just like other people’s dogs, consider this book required reading. It extends the responsibility for companionship and communication to both ends of the leash, helping humans understand dogs, what motivates them, and how they learn.”

We think this one is worth grabbing for yourself or your favorite dog person. It’s being released this week and is available HERE with Amazon’s Pre-Order Low Price Guarantee, or look for it at your favorite local book shop.

April Super Chewer BarkBox Dog Toys

Treat Lock Goblet Dog Toy ($16 retail value) This natural rubber dog toy is a treat puzzle toy. It can be unscrewed so that specially designed dog treats fit perfectly in the goblet’s base.

Dogberry Pup-pet Dog Toy ($12 retail value) This super cute and durable dog toy is also made of solid, natural rubber. He’s wearing a plush costume layer that is easily removable.

There he is without his costume. And below are a couple more shots of the goblet dog treat toy so you can see how much thought and detail are put into each Super Chewer dog toy.

April Super Chewer BarkBox Dog Treats

Super Chewer Treat Lock Treats ($11 retail value) These peanut flavored toys are designed to fit perfectly into the goblet treat toy, as well as a few other Super Chewer dog toys mentioned on the box…maybe hinting that more treat lock toys will arrive in future boxes!

Berry Wives of Windsor Dog Treats ($8 retail value) Peanut butter and blueberry are what’s in these tasty treats — one of Daisy’s favorite combinations! As with all BarkBox and Super Chewer dog treats, these are made in the USA with high-quality ingredients. No wheat, soy or corn included…just the way we prefer our dog treats.

Jones Natural Chews Lamb Link Dog Chew ($4 retail value) Meaty, chewy lamb meat and lung in a collagen casing. Big enough to break in half to save some for later!

Plato Pet Treats Thinkers Salmon Dog Chew Stick ($3 retail value) There are always full-size meat chews in every month’s Super Chewer box, and Plato makes some of our favorites. This time it’s their salmon treat sticks, yay! Called Thinkers because this dog snack is packed full of DHA and Omega-3 fatty acid famous for its cognitive benefits. This treat is true brain food.

In addition to the amazing dog toys and treats, the Super Chewer box usually includes some extra bonus items or other surprises depending on the theme of the month. This month we got a super cute fashion accessory to accompany the Shakespearean theme. A Ruff Collar!

This is extra clever because the reason why dog cones are called E-Collars is because they are named after Elizabethan Collars (the collars Queen Elizabeth wore) which were also called Ruffs.

Here is Daisy wearing hers, but looking none too pleased about it.

As usual, this month’s Super Chewer Box also included an info card with details on what’s in the box, and a fun little activity.

Every Super Chewer BarkBox also includes free toy replacement and a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so you can feel completely confident that you and your dog will be totally happy with every item you receive.

Super Chewer Box Cost and Value

By our calculation, this month’s BarkBox Super Chewer edition had $54 worth of dog toys, treats and chews if you were to purchase them all separately. That’s makes a subscription a real bargain when you consider that plans starts as low as $29/month with free US shipping included.
