Our Experience with the Kurgo Lifetime Warranty

We already knew that Kurgo makes some of the most durable dog accessories around, with a lifetime warranty, and we recently needed to put that guarantee to the test with our Kurgo Wander Hammock Dog Car Seat Cover. This version protects both the back seats as well as the back of the front seats. It also keeps Daisy from poking into the front seats while we are driving.

We’ve had two of these car seat covers, one in each of our cars, for about 6 years. They’ve done their job keeping our car seats clean and have been easy to care for. Usually just a quick vacuum or spot clean has taken care of business, but recently I noticed that the back lining was deteriorating and leaving a flaky mess on the back seats in my car. I’m guessing this was due to the amount of sun and heat that my car gets year-round here in South Florida. We double checked the cover in Woof Woof Papa’s car and it is still in great shape so this may have just been some kind of fluke.

I was disappointed but knew that Kurgo has a lifetime warranty, so I visited their website to see what to do about getting a replacement. Usually, there are all kinds of loopholes and hoops to jump through with company warranties, but Kurgo only required that I fill out a web form, upload photos and details about the purchase location and date, and within 2 days I’d received an email with shipping notification of our free replacement.

There aren’t that many companies out there willing to guarantee their products for life, but we can certainly confirm that the Kurgo Lifetime Warranty is 100% LEGIT.

People have asked me before if Kurgo dog products are worth the extra price. Yes, they are a little more expensive than some other brands, but you get what you pay for. Their products are designed for active dogs, outdoor and travel. And they really stand by their products, so you never have to worry if something goes wrong. I feel even more confident than ever in recommending their products to our fellow dog moms and dads.

Check out the Kurgo shop for dog car seat covers, pet first aid kits, collars, harnesses, dog life jackets, pet travel and more active dog and pet safety products.

Important Note: you can find many Kurgo products for sale on Amazon but make sure that you check that the seller is actually Kurgo Products. My understanding is that the Lifetime Warranty only applies to authorized sellers, so it’s not worth saving a few bucks if you risk voiding the replacement guarantee. Daisy Tries Shed Defender, The Dog Onesie That Controls Shedding

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

For a short-haired dog, Daisy sure does shed a LOT. This means fur on the sofa, in our bed where she sleeps every night, in the car…you name it, we find hair there. So I was super excited to test out the Shed Defender. It’s basically a dog bodysuit that contains pet hair. It also has some other useful features I think dog moms and dads will appreciate.

What is Shed Defender

The Shed Defender is a full-body dog onesie made from a lightweight, breathable fabric, with four-way stretch to allow your dog to move freely. It’s machine washable and dryable. The main purpose is to contain pet hair and prevent your dog from leaving fur everywhere. It can also help reduce anxiety, since its snug fit can create a calming effect (similar to a Thunder Shirt). If you and your dog like to spend time outdoors, you’ll be glad to know that the Shed Defender provides UV protection and helps keep your dog clean. It can be used instead of the dreaded Cone of Shame for certain medical conditions. It even comes with its own little pouch for travel and storage.

Putting It On and Taking It Off

The first time we tried putting the bodysuit on Daisy, it was a bit of a challenge. She doesn’t like new things and was really skeptical about the whole situation. To end up with a positive experience. never force your dog to do something they really don’t want to do. To get her used to it, I just put it on half way at first and then gave her some treats while we hung out.

Once we got the whole thing on and zipped up, it took her about 30 minutes to really be ok with it, and then I think she forgot she had it on. If you are planning to use one when you travel, in the car, or for anxiety reduction, I suggest a few trial-runs at home to get your dog familiar with what to expect.

Size and Fit

As you can see, it fits Daisy pretty well. Although there are MANY sizes available, I was concerned when choosing her size online because usually NOTHING fits her right. T-shirts, Halloween costumes, harnesses, we always seem to have trouble because she’s very slim but has a broad chest. Thanks to the accurate size chart and stretchy fabric, we didn’t have a problem. She’s 48lbs and is wearing the Large.

The model we got is the Original, with a full zipper, but Shed Defender also makes a Sport edition where the zipper stops at the belly, allowing easier access for potty.

Play Your Way To Good Manners Dog Training Book Review

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Dog lovers, there’s a brand new dog training book dropping this week. Daisy and I got an early copy so we could check it out and tell you all about it.

It’s Play Your Way To Good Manners, Getting the Best Behavior from Your Dog through Sports, Games, and Tricks. The authors are accomplished dog trainers Kate Naito and Sarah Westcott.

There are many dog training books out there, but what we really love about this one is that it focuses on The Power of Play. I think we all know that learning is faster and more effective when we’re having FUN, but we often forget this when it comes to training our dogs. This book focuses on positive reinforcement and takes the frustration out of teaching AND learning.

Training topics include these basics: sit, down, stay, recall, and leashed walking; PLUS cute tricks, advanced tips, and games to beat boredom and encourage good manners.

Go HERE to get a look inside the book.

Spot Magazine says, “If you live with a dog, or plan to live with a dog, or just like other people’s dogs, consider this book required reading. It extends the responsibility for companionship and communication to both ends of the leash, helping humans understand dogs, what motivates them, and how they learn.”

We think this one is worth grabbing for yourself or your favorite dog person. It’s being released this week and is available HERE with Amazon’s Pre-Order Low Price Guarantee, or look for it at your favorite local book shop.

Daisy’s Taking a DNA Test and Here’s $20 OFF So Your Dog Can Too!

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

We adopted our dog Daisy from a local shelter when she was about three months old. She’d been abandoned, and no one knew anything about her background, history or health. People always ask us what type of dog she is and I usually say she’s “a mutt.” Her daddy likes to call her an “American Dingo.” If we had to guess we’d say she’s part hound and part labrador, maybe a LOT of hound based on how she can howl and sniff.

In addition to wondering about her breed, we also wonder about her health. She’s been a bit of a sick puppy since we got her with everything from food allergies and digestive issues to two different types of cancer so far. Luckily, both cancers were detected early, and we do our best to remain vigilant about her health.

One step we are taking is to learn more about Daisy’s health and genetics with a dog DNA test from Embark. An Embark dog DNA test lets dog parents learn about their pup’s breed and health with a simple cheek swab. It looks at over 250 breeds and more than 175 genetic health conditions and traits.

Embark was our choice of dog DNA test kits for several reasons:

  • The most accurate breed identification on the market
  • Screens for over 175 genetic conditions
  • Includes your dog’s family tree back to great grandparents
  • The world’s only canine relative finder
  • One simple cheek swab

While we do her cheek swab and send it off to the lab to wait for the results, feel free to take advantage of a very special $20 OFF coupon so that you can learn about your dog’s DNA, health and ancestry too!

Just use this link and save $20 off your Embark DNA Kit with Coupon Code: STPADDY20 Valid thru 3/31.

Free shipping in the continental U.S. within 3-5 business days. Return shipping of swabs included.

Stay tuned for a follow up post once we get Daisy’s DNA test results. We can’t wait to tell you more about what we discover!

Grinch Super Chewer Box Review + Holiday Deal

Some posts may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

We found ourselves feeling Grinchy already, even with Christmas still several weeks away. The perfect antidote to the holiday doldrums is the box of goodness that is Daisy’s monthly delivery of Super Chewer toys and treats. In case you hadn’t already heard of it, Super Chewer is a dog box subscription service designed especially for dogs who are toy destroyers and extreme chewers.

It’s a monthly delivery of the most durable dog toys and extra long-lasting treats, customized for your dog’s size and food allergies.

Every Super Chewer Box includes $45+ worth of dog stuff:

  • 2 Extremely durable dog toys (plus free toy replacement)
  • 2 Full-size bags of natural dog treats (made in USA)
  • 2 long-lasting meat chews (made in USA)
  • Free US Shipping
  • Satisfaction Guarantee (Scout’s Honor)

Every month’s Super Chewer Box has a different theme, and this month’s theme is The Grinch. It’s a special limited-edition box that’s still available as of this writing, so I’ll keep things brief so you can get right to it if you want to snag one for your dog!

Here’s a look at what was in the November Super Chewer BarkBox along with the retail values of each item if purchased separately:

November Super Chewer BarkBox Dog Toys
  • Fred the Reindeer Dog Toy ($14 retail value) A super tough and durable squeaky toy made of natural rubber. For outdoor play, the bright orange would make it easy to see in the snow…or in our case, the sand. Daisy ran off with this one as soon as I unwrapped it, but I’ll try to take a photo later of how CUTE it is!
  • Grinch’s Sleigh Dog Toy ($14 retail value) Also made of natural rubber and super strong, with a durable nylon rope for tug and a squeaker in the body of the sleigh. I’m actually saving this one as a stocking stuffer for Daisy on Christmas eve.

November Super Chewer BarkBox Dog Treats
  • Roast Beast Deliciously Wicked Duck Dog Treats ($8 retail value) Duck is one of Daisy’s favorites, and I LOVE the Grinchy treat bag! As with all Bark dog treats, these are made in the USA with natural ingredients, free from soy, wheat and other stuff dogs shouldn’t have. You can customize your dog’s plan based on any food allergies, which is just one of the many things we love about having this subscription.
  • Roast Beast Chew On This Pork Dog Treats ($8 retail value) These have pork as the protein and flavor.  Who could argue with that? Not Daisy! She loves bacon, ham, basically anything with pork, but we don’t let her eat too much people food so these are the perfect holiday treat for her instead.
  • Plato Pet Treats Thinkers Salmon Dog Chew Stick X 2  ($6 retail value) There are always full-size meat chews in every month’s Super Chewer box, and Plato makes some of our favorites. This time it’s a double batch of their salmon treat sticks, yay! Called Thinkers because this dog snack is packed full of DHA and Omega-3 fatty acid famous for its cognitive benefits. This treat is true brain food.
  • Plato Pet Treats Duck Stick ($3 retail value) Another of our favorite treats from one of our favorite brands. Although we like surprises, we never tire of getting these in our Super Chewer box.
The Grinch Limited Edition Max Antlers for Your Dog to Wear

Daisy is feeling pretty Grinchy having to model the special Max Antlers that were included in this month’s Super Chewer box. We always LOVE the little extra surprises and bonus items that their folks dream up for each month’s theme. This one is the perfect photo prop for Instagram, and making some Grinch edition photo cards for Christmas if I can find the time.

The Grinch box is still available and there’s a special offer if you hurry and order here soon!
