As pet parents and animal lovers, most of us take extra care to be selective about the products we use for our pets, home and family. This means watching for natural and non-toxic ingredients, as well as those that are better for the environment and that have not been tested on animals.

I recently received some samples to test from a company called Primal Products, a small Florida company that makes handcrafted deodorant called Primal Pit Paste, and several other body care products, using organic and natural ingredients. The timing was perfect because over the past several months, we’ve been trying to swap many of the conventional products we use around our place, with safer and more natural alternatives.

I’ve been spending time reading reviews online and using the EWG Guide to Healthy Cleaning and Skin Deep Database to help find smarter choices, so the first thing I did when I was offered the samples to review, was look up Primal Products! The Skin Deep Database lets consumers search for beauty and personal care products by brand name or type of product, and look up ratings for how safe the ingredients are. I was super happy to see that Primal Pit Paste is rated 0 which is the BEST rating on the Skin Deep scale from 0-10 from low hazard to high hazard products and ingredients.

Over the past several weeks Woof Woof Papa and I have been using several of the Primal Products and are ready to give you our impressions. All products are Natural, Gluten Free, Cruelty Free and contain No GMOs. Here’s a rundown:

Primal Popo Powder

This is an herbal body powder made with organic arrowroot, aluminum free baking soda, kaolin clay, magnesium, and organic cocoa butter. We’ve been using the unscented but it also comes in Lavender or Thyme and Lemon Grass made with natural essential oils.

Popo is a cute sounding nickname for your “down under” region, which as runners and other athletes know, can need some extra care due to perspiration and sweat glands in that area…but the powder can be used all over the body. It’s gentle yet effective, and I like to sprinkle it in the hubby’s stinky running shoes when he’s not looking.

Primal Pucker Paste Lip Balm

Proof that this company really does make everything to cover you from head to toe and in-between, they make an awesome natural lip balm. The hubby has always used lip balm when he runs, to avoid chapped lips…especially when he was training for his marathon. I just wish we’d known about this one sooner! It’s made with all-natural ingredients including Organic Coconut oil, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Beeswax and different Essential Oils depending on what flavor you choose. He likes the unscented, and I love the Vanilla Peppermint.
